That DANG door chime

I want to disconnect the door/lights in chime on my 04 Ram. On my 96, I was able to easily trace down the sound to the module and unplug it.

On the 04, I can follow the sound to the underside of the dash, but am unable to find the actual sound module. Short of burning the truck to the ground, how do I shut this thing up?

thanks,
garrett

Is your door left open all the time? I open my door, get in or out, and close it. The few brief seconds of chimes really isn't a big deal. I don't think I'd put the effort into disabling it.

On my 03 model, I can pull the key out far enough to get rid of the chime even with the switch in the on or acc position.

I bet that thing would still chime after being burned up. I could do without the seat belt chime; It makes no sense for me to put my belt on when I'm going 5 MPH on my property and hopping in an out all the time.

Home made stethoscope

Try using a length of fuel line or heater hose like a stethoscope to narrow down the area that the chime is coming from. Unfortunately I think it is part of the PCB of the dashboard.

I solved this problem on my toyota...

I let the dinger ding. Traced it to it's source. Pulled the box out. Pulled the board out of the box. Used my soldering iron and a solder sucker. Pulled that darn pizio buzzer out. Measured the resistance. Bought a matching resistor. Put the resistor in place. Reinstalled everything.

No more dinging and everything else works normally.

Cost = 25¢

I have a cheepo generic dodge key cut, and it does not touch the sensor because it's shorter... my dinger almost never dings...

Dieselnick,
You can turn the seat belt chime off. The procedure is in the owner's manual or look it up on the internet. If you can't find it let me know.

Pull the door panel off and disconect the wires by the latch (that holds the door closed) I can remember if you need to short them out or just unhook them!!!!!!!

Hope this helps............................ Love the name...........spelling to, nice to see another GARRETT on the board
