Here is a brief description of how to install cruise control for your Dodge Ram ST.

1: Purchase these switches at your friendly Dodge dealer.

RIGHT HAND SWITCH #56049378AB-RETAIL $18.79
LEFT HAND SWITCH #56049379AB-RETAIL $19.91

2: In order to remove the airbag from the steering wheel, you need to turn the steering wheel 90° from center. This will let you access the two bolts on the back of the steering wheel. (I used a deep socket 10mm 1/4" drive ratchet)

3: Once the steering wheel is placed at the 90° position, shutdown the engine and remove the two negative battery cables and wait a minimum of ten minutes for the airbag module to be drained of available power.

4: Now remove the airbag by removing the two bolts at rear of the steering wheel. Have someone hold the airbag while you remove the switch blanks, this permits you to leave the airbag wiring connected.

5: The switch blanks are removed with a Phillips screwdriver, when these are removed just install the new switches and put everything back together and enjoy your cruise control equipped Ram!

This procedure is confirmed to have worked with the following model year trucks.

04.5 manual trans, and an 06 auto equpped truck, I feel that the price of the switches are worth it just to see if it will work on your truck. I'm willing to bet that it does!

I have asked this question several times on this forum but nobody has been able to tell me if this would work on my truck.(I have the ST model w/o cruise). So I went to the dealership and spoke with several of the service people. They all advised me that I could not simply add cruise buttons and magically have cruise(and the high idle feature). They all told me that I would have to change out the PCM and other computer related items and that it would require lots of work and $$.

You think they are mistaken? Would this work on my 5.9 '07 model?

The trucks have the same wire harness, it's cheaper to produce these trucks this way. Just try it, it's only $40............

I did this a few months ago and posted on here how to do it. I bought the switches, hooked them up and my cruise has worked great. I think on a auto tranny the computer has be flashed by a dealer. On a manual tranny you just simply plug the switches in and you are good to go.

No flash is required for the auto equipped trucks.

I installed the two new steering wheel cruise switches on my 2004.5 ST w/auto tranny but not working.

The light on the left switch doesn't come on when I hit the "on" switch.

Glad my STripper came with cruise. It has a power driver's seat and decent stereo too. I do miss power locks and windows though. Seems like power windows would be cheaper than the hand crank mechanism, so that one's a head scratcher...

Oh, and did you notice how the stretch the vinyl flooring over the top of the cup holders for the back seat??? Seems like it would've been cheaper just to leave them be. Oh well, they just got sticky and gross in my SLTs, don't miss the rear cupholders anyway.

Maybe we should start an ST owner's club on here.

Stockman, I added the switches and also did not have cruise control immediately working....I had to go to a dealership and have them "enable" the option in the computer...they wanted to charge me like $90, but I talked to them alittle and they finally said no charge. It worked great after they "enabled" it.

MTC, was yours an '04 with an automatic?

Also, is it possible that my '04 ST didn't come with a cruise control servo? I know what it should look like from internet pic's but haven't been able to locate it
