Couldn't do it.
Had to drive to Lexington today to pick up my daughters horse, pulled a 3 horse gooseneck unloaded from Northern KY. I drove 75- 80 MPH on the way down and got 13.4 MPG.
Decided to see what kind of mileage I could get on the way back if I kept under 70. That worked for about 5 miles, every time I looked down I was doing at least 70, usually 75. Big Red just doesn't want to go below 70!
Just thrills me passing cars uphill pulling a horse trailer at 75 MPH in overdrive

On the last trip I took, (1250 miles) pulling an 18 ft Stock trailer with one 1100 lb brood mare I got 13.5 mpg also. I drove half of those miles with an empty trailer and got the same mileage as when with the mare. I kept the speed at 70mph. That was before I got the mileage reflash, havent pulled since but I am betting I would be able to get 15 mpg now.

My truck's mileage has been going up and up. On my last trip with the cruise control set at 85 empty (1500 miles round trip) I got an average of 18.3 (!!!).
Yesterday I made a short trip (~50 miles) at 55 mph (cruise control) and got 23 mpg.
I often times have the same problem you do about my truck not wanting to go below a certain speed. With my car trailer with car on it often times I'll be passing a line of cars (lane ending or whatnot). Floor it from 80 just watch the speedo climb 85, 90, 95...
I love this thing.

My son just hauled a 6900# horse trailer from norther Vermont near Canada to Portland Oragon with his 04.5 (with juice set on 1) and averaged 14.8. Took him 72 hours. Said he got 10.8 with the formulated fuel in New England and it jumped to 15 with the fuel in Ohio. He freaked when he bought fuel in Boise ID for $2.55 gal.

- yep, all of us oil burners here in Idaho are REAL $#%^&*&*($^&*$&*(%&* happy with what Klinton did to the diesel manufacturing (hence costs), and then what our own state gov't has added with the second highest fuel taxes in the country.
I'm thinking about buying a ricer so I can afford to drive to work!!!

Nope, not kidding on the mileage. The long trip was hand-calculated, the 55 mph run was overhead, but the overhead is within about 0.5 mpg of actual I've been finding.
My truck also has just over 18k miles on it (good sum of towing involved), and I use PowerService Diesel Fuel Treatment sometimes. Not sure if it actually makes a difference or not, but it seems to.
Here's another thing to note: On that long trip, I had a wardrobe that filled the bed, i.e. like having a cover on it. Next time I make the same trip (should be in a bit over a month) I'll see if that makes a difference without anything in back. If it does, I'm going to build something that will sit back there (I have a toolbox so I can't just have a cover) and see if that fixes it. Anyone else noticed similar changes in mileage with items in the bed?

Be happy in NC because I'm paying $2.62 a gallon in Western Washington and it's continuing to rise........I'm happy Spring is almost here and the icy roads are gone because it's back on the HOG for commuting to work everyday.
