Could someone explain the new style exhaust to me?
I upgraded to an '07 from the 2000 in my profile (i need to change that) and I had the muffler and resonator taken off on my 2000 and got better mileage. I'm thinking about doing that to the '07 also, but don't want to screw any sensors up if there are any new ones on the new dodges, or is it just as simple as cutting out the resonator/muffler and replacing them with straight pipe like I did on the old one?
Thanks,

Yeah that's what I was worried about. I forgot about that post. I didn't know if the "scrubber" would be a problem if it was removed or not. If anyone has any suggestions, please enlighten me!

Most ppl describe it as a kitty on this site but for most part on these trucks the cat flows pretty good. Unless your shooting for 1000 hp they dont really pose a real restriction. Im not sure about any real improvement in fuel mileage but I would say just get a muff delete and leave the cat..

The rule concerning the discussion of removing/moding the kitty or DPF has been changed.

So these have a cat converter on them instead of a resonator? Is that why my exhaust smells like umm.....not diesel exhaust?
On my 2000 the exhaust came off the turbo went through the resonator, then through the muffler and out. On this one it comes off the turbo, goes through the cat, and then the muffler and out...right? Oh and it is a 5.9

Since you said its a 5.9, do what was said earlier and chop off the muffler but leave the kitty. Leaving the kitty in place will make the sound noticeable but not too loud or raspy like a '03- early '04 305hp Cummins that has been straight piped. Putting a tip on the very end of the tailpipe will change the tone of the exhaust a bit too depending on the size and length of the tip.
