If you had the tube facing straight down would you have any kind of issues of sucking in water? Or even going through a truck wash with an underbody flush?

I think as far as rain goes on the hiway, all spray is rearward - of course you'd have to limit the length of the tube to about he same area as shown on the pics where the inner fender liner and that other plastic piece would protect the inlet. I think lower would create an issue during driving.

I've only had once experience at a carwash that has an underbody wash and it didn't work worth a horse's ptooty, so I don't use them anyway. I suppose if one did use them regularily, you could just cover the inlet until finished washing.

All joking aside, I honestly do think pantyhose covering the inlet and where the tube enters the airbox would filter out dust, light snow, and minor rain spray even more than just placement alone.

Even a 5" or 6" piece of that cool blue hose painted black (disguise for the dealer tech.'s) running from the bottom of the box would be flexible enough to squeeze between the fender liner and that other plastic piece for more air flow than the advertised 4" - easier to work with than PVC pipe as well - coupled with black pantyhose clamped to the bottom of the inlet and placed on top of the hose where it meets the box would the cat's backside.

Now the juices are flowin'.

festus i think your right with a little foot work you could build it your self .i just dont have the time i just think this is a good setup compared to the same design made by banks its a steal an the banks does not get as clean or cool air plus it might void your warranty.

I hear you! I don't have a bunch of time myself, but for something this invigorating, it may have to be a project over the course of time.

I gonna do it! It may take me a bit to measure what size hose I can fit in there, round up parts, and actually get it done, but it will be done.

I shall do. Usually though, I get stuff finished and don't stop to take pics along the way - hard to do a write-up that way - for example, the remote control system I set up for my aux. lighting - will have to take after installation pics.

I'll have to change my ways from head down / butt up to taking coffee or beer sipping breaks.

Step 1: Find some black pantyhose.

I just took your suggestion and made a similar setup. took about an hour. Used a 3" toilet flange, and some 3" dryer ducting with a drain cover. Thought about 4", but I had to trim the flange some anyways. Will try to post pics.

Read this post yesterday, and went to Lowes earlier this afternoon. Pretty simple little project. Removed Intake (one hose clamp, one nut) Used the drain on bottom of filter housing to mount up the toilet flange. Test fitted piece, needed to trim flange to get it so seat fully down on to the lock pins. Used flange as template to mark a hole in bottom of box. Cut out hole and clean it up. Use flange as template for bolt holes, drillem out bolt it up. Test fit again, and measure length for tubing. Did mine at 16" to keep it up imbetween the fender liner and the other plastic piece. Cut tube to length install on flange with hose clamp. Installed a drain cover in the bottom end to keep debri out with another hose clamp. Put it back in and bolted it up. Just need to get a new filter and some long zipties now. Gonna put a few small holes in the fenderliner to zip tie the tub to. I only drove it around the block, but I can hear a noticable difference. You can hear the air coming in with the windows down, even over the turbo, I'm not sure about performance or temps, as I didnt drive to far, but on my way to get a new filter tomorrow I'll find out. Still working on pics to post

Well its usually a truck wash I go through with the trailer attached and their underbody flush is pretty fierce (ripped the plate off my trailer once and does a good job moving the truck around) so that was my concern. I suppose if I hosed clamped it on from the bottom I could just remove it till after the wash? Or maybe have a piece of rubber to clamp over it?

how about a cup upside down stuck in tube hole during wash taper on cup would keep it from going up but give you a tight fit.

Not a word of a lie - I discussed this little project with my friend Karen tonight (my turn to cook dinner). She stated that black kid sized leotards or "sheer" pantyhose would be stronger than just regular pantyhose. They can be obtained at the dollar store.

I'm gonna have fun with this. "Large, burly guy in cowboy hat bought kid sized, black leotards today" will be the discussion in the store.

Great ideas gents! I going to go one step further though. I will try for a 5 or 6" hose like those off a highway tractor (same stuff as the "cool blue" hose). My project will definitely take longer because of test fitting and disguising for the dealer. Also, before I buy hose or anything else I have to test fit with something roughly the same size to see if a hose that size can be stuffed through there first - maybe an empty coffee can or something else that diameter in the garage. Besides, I may be leaving for work tomorrow. I will post pics when complete - it may take awhile, but I have this thread subscribed and I'm in no rush.
