thing of using this on my 06 i just use the truck for pulling horse trailers. does any one have this system and do you think there is a noticeable improvment in power .and do you think it lowers tempatures.

I made the same dang thing myself out of a toilet floor flange and some dryer vent hose and a hose clamp for about $15.

 

I'd probably put a outerwears or some type of screen on the bottom. just my .02.

 

I like the concept but not the price. I just ordered my kit Thursday. Hope it's warm enough next weekend to get some play work done. http://www.grizzly.com/products/g3181 You get enough hose for five trucks. $2.98 @ Lowes will get you a 4''pvc snap- in drain w/plastic grill #181433 I'm going to use the snap-in drain on the bottom. I will cut out the grill & replace with some S/S screen. Get 5 guys , split the cost & your at 10.00 or so bucks.

 

some kind of screen on bottom makes sence great idea.

 

If you get a chance or have the means to do it see what your temperture readings are before the mod (stock air box) and then after the mod with the tubing your installing. I don't know if it would work are not but I was going to use a indoor/outdoor wireless digital thermometer to check the air temperture in the air box, using the small outdoor remote I have positioned on the inside bottom under the air filter of the air box with the main unit in the cab, go for a ride and see what the reading are. I'm not sure how high of a temperture reading I will get on my unit because I don't have the paper work that shows max high temp reading for the wireless unit I have anymore. I'm curious to know how much temp difference there would be between the two, stock and modded air box.

Good idea! Better than just cheese grating the bottom of the air box IMHO.

Where they have that hose running down, is flexible plastic on the truck - noticed this when wiring my bumper lights. What I didn't notice is if a straight piece of PVC pipe could be run straight down or even if at a slight angle, just cut the top at angle to mount flush to the bottom of the air box - unribbed walls would increase flow even more - no turbulence.

Maybe one could squeeze a 5", or even a 6" hose through there and increase flow even more. Even window screen and a zip tie sound good for the bottom - even better would be a pair of the ex's pantyhose. Now how can I get my hands on them? They'd be free, but what a man has to do to get them could be interesting.

 

there web site shows some[ impresive ] graphs an the test results about the stock air box make me think this is the way to go. but you cant always beleive what you read thats why i was trying to find someone that had one or somthing simulair.im going to get one anyway its got to help an i think my warrenty will be safe. already have a high flow filter.

 

There are guys on here that have noticed "seat of the pants" (HP) gains just by cheese grating their intake - and lower EGT's. Where not talking huge numbers, but every little bit helps.

IMHO, where this set-up is better, would be drawing in the cooler air from the pipe instead of warm air from the engine compartment, just as stated on that site. It only makes sense logically thinking.

wrm - I honestly think that instead of spending the kind of money they want, one could build a set-up for about 1/3 of the cost just by picking up parts at Home Depot, etc. It would be a no brainer that the install would take more time and being somewhat mechanically inclined would be a benefit.

I know I will be looking into the straight PVC pipe idea as soon as I can get into my garage and devote some time for inspection and thought on this. This idea coupled with smoothing flow on the other side of the filter would be a sweet set-up I think - argueably better than the AFE's, K&N's, etc.

I honestly think that guys tinkering in garages have come up with some better ideas in functionality than some of the manufactures.

Yesterday, at the Alberta dino and GTG, I was looking for some ideas from other members on this issue to see what guys have done and their experrince with different products. Now, you really got me thinking that something better can be built for a fraction of the price. I may even have to do a write-up if someone doesn't beat me to the punch.
