A friend with three early 70's Chevy trucks (he says they haven't made anything good since then) watched how I did with my Dodge. After awhile we started looking for a loss leader and found one at a local dealer. He wanted a SRW 3500 QC HO Larmie LB, but wasn't sure about the tranny. He preferred an auto, initially stated an Allison would be perfect, but the higher repair rates and apparent defueling that GM does with the Allison in 1st and 5th suggests that the marketing has been more effective than their design and QC. He inquired with some aftermarket tranny shops and asked how much it would cost to make the auto bulletproof, and was told $2k to $3k depending upon power upgrades. He said that was fine, he'd use and abuse an auto and if it broke he'd get it upgraded. He really likes his truck, puts a lot of miles on it, has had zero problems, and has friends considering one too.

It was the second of three Dodge diesels that I've 'sold'.

GET THE 3500...period! I'm living proof of making the mistake of getting a 2500 when my first inclination was to get the 3500. (The wife didn't like the "Bubba Lights", as she calls the clearance lights mounted on the roof.)

Well, about 12 months after getting the 2500, we decided to get a new, heavier 5er. And guess what? The Payload capacity of the 2500 wasn't high enough to carry it...legally. Go big the first time and you'll be glad you did...no matter what brand truck you end up buying.

You know what? She (the wife) got used to the "Bubba Lights"!
