Coming over from Ford...?

I just sold my F250 7.3 Reg Cab..two years old and only 26K on it. Need a truck with more room. I know the quad cabs are ragged on because they aren't as roomy as the Fords but for me, a Quad would work great. I am scared silly of the new 6.0 Powerstroke so I went Dodge shopping (chevy too butt ugly). How does this deal sound..first off I'm in Maine, which means that the only trucks available are low power diesels..something like 225hp and 460ft lbs. Not a big deal for me, I drove a romping stomping (supposedly) 6.0 Ford and it seemed just like my 7.3. This 2500 Quad Cab I drove had the low power diesel and seemed ok to me. Dealer wants 33.9K for the truck and another 3.7K for a Fisher V-Plow installed. This is the truck equipment:

2004 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Quad Cab 4X4 shortbed
Black Clearcoat Exterior paint
Dark Slate Grey
Premium Cloth 40/20/40 Bench w/power drivers seat
Rear 60/40 bench seat
Light Group
Trailer Tow Group w/class IV hitch and seven wire harness
Heavy Duty Snow Plow Prep
Security Group
Soft Tonneau Cover
Folding Flat Load Floor Storage
Four-Speed Automatic
4.10 Axle ratio
Anti-Spin Differential
5.9L Cummins Diesel w/750-Ampere battery and EVAP delete
Rear Window defogger
Body Side Moulding
Clearance Lights
Fog Lamps
Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel
LT265/70R17E OWL on/off-road tires
Power Adjustable Pedals
Front Hood Protection Shield
Under-Rail Box Bedliner
ODY (?) no price shown for this thing

Total with destination is 40,885 sticker
again, truck I can get for 33,995
Fisher Plow is another 3,700
Tax and fees will bring the total to around $39,850.

I have a Fed ID tax and and an LLC if that helps your figuring. Dealer said that will save me 800 bucks on the plow upfit and 300 on the truck, both figures are well, already figure in the above quotes.

Thanks for taking the time to look this over. This is in stock and they can deliver in a few days...I put 5K deposit subject to the wife, kid, dog, etc approving it..My current ride is a clapped out 88 Ford F-150 farm truck so I am kinda in a hurry before I end up stranded on the side of I-95 someplace and in fairness to the dealer I should let him know in a day or two what I decided ..thanks

You do know that the 325HP/600 motor is available in 50 states now...right. That is quite a power increase over the CA SO motor. Just want to make sure you have all the facts before making a decision.

You can wait a month or so and get the 325/600 all stat legal cummins. If you don't need or want the extra power it sounds like a fair deal.

I would suggest going for the '600' Cummins. It's a full 90 horsepower stronger and a heckuva lot more torque than the truck you just tried out, and there are still good incentives on the brand new trucks. If you shop around you can still get a very good deal on a 2004.5, even close to what you were quoted. They should be showing up regularly in lots by now for test driving and then order just what you want. The guys here can set you straight on the options you'll want.

Have fun shopping, and don't tell yer Ford buddies what you're up to

Tell them you don't want the drop in bed liner. Save that money and get a spray in bed liner LINE-X or Rhino Liner is the way to go. Those drop in jobs mess up the paint and cause rust to form and exspecially where you are you will get road salt under it and it will eat thru the bed.
If you can wait about a month the the 50 state legal 325/600 will be out which will be great and then if you still want the other one you can get even a better deal because everyone else will be buying the new one

Just remember go CTD or stay Home

I have to agree. Won't be long before that new 325/600 is filling the lots up. But then, it is an unknown entity at this point. How big a hurry are you in? It may be worthwhile to take a deep breath and wait a couple of months to see how the new engine plays out. I am sure there will still be plenty of trucks with either engine on the lots and you will be making a more informed decision. FWIW

Well, I decided not be a beta tester for Dodge and go with the older 5.9. (my Powerstroke background coming out) I convinced myself that with the low power of this "Maine Special" that the tranny will last longer The other big thing is that I can actually have my fanny in it next Wed with a Fisher Plow mounted and ready to go to make some $$...I don't think if/when I trade anyone will be crawling around looking at deciphering the VIN...More power is good, but I have to deal pretty quickly since my current ride is not very reliable. Dealer is going to buy back the bed liner and I'm keeping the Tonneau cover. Only place that has a Fisher V plow is about 45 miles from me, the dealer is driving the truck to Augusta and having it fitted...can't wait..........should have it next Wed...

Hey! I decided to order a 3500 dually with the 600 ft Lb monster engine...what the heck is 10 weeks?? I figured that if end up pulling a big fifth wheeler the dually would be better able to handle it..I am so excited. Got the 6 speed 'cause I just like 'em. 4.10 "anti-spin" and the Laramie package..This thing is gonna cost me as much as my first house but it is going to be a stout pulling machine...hope there are some incentives still around when it comes in...Gotta go look for a nice toy hauler fiver for the goldwing now...I'll be back when it comes in....

Congrats DaHammer. I'm looking to unload my F-350 and order a Cummins. I'm trying to decide on the color right now. From what I've read, as long as you have a signed order, you will get the current rebate or, if it goes up, you will get that one. I asked my dealer about the rebates and she said they currently are available for the new Cummins so that's great.

Good Choice! I think you will be much happier with the higher powered engine!

I also got a 04 dually, see signature. However, mine is with the 305HP HO. I couldn't be more pleased with this truck! It is absolutely AWESOME! The only bad thing is that it will not go through a carwash. In the winter time, you can't was your vehicle outside, too cold here. I have to take it to a Big Truck wash and they want a minimum of $15.00 to wash it. I do use the spray washes when possible.

I don't know what you are paying for it, but mine was $36,153 out the door. See signature for specs.

If you are ordering one, Dishman Dodge in Spokane will sell you one for $1,100 under dealer invoice. Ask for Butch, and tell him Big Bob sent you.

I am not affilated with Dishman Dodge in any way, just passing on a great deal!
