Clunking sound coming from front end

I just developed a slight clunking noise coming from driver side front end of my 06 w/42k. It happened about two weeks ago, i replaced shocks last week as they were shot (and junk to begin with) thinking that maybe the noise would go away, but it's still their. Any thoughts???

By the way the Bilsteins are worth every penny, if i were to buy a new dodge tomorrow, i would pull it into a tire shop yank those sorry excuses for tires (michelins) and the stock piece of crap shocks off and replace them all. What a difference.

does it happen more with hard slow turns? if so, front drive shaft u joints might be going, there is a single at the transfer case end and a double with a ball up at the front axle end.

If it happens as you go over small bumps it's the sway bar end links. A common problem that makes kind of a clunk or rattle. You can find out by going under and hitting the link with the side of your fist. If it makes the sound that's it.

can be a lot of things. process of elimination time! can be ball joints, axle u-joints, trac bar, steering shaft, steering box, tie rod, or wheel bearing/hub assembly. it sucks trying to track something like that down. i had a same clunk in the beginning of the summer. in my case- i had multiple issues- a bad ball joint, a bad axle u- joint and a tie rod going south. at this point- i just went ahead and replaced the whole entire front end at the same time.

Raspy, yes it does happen as i go over small bumps or even small imperfections (cracks in pavement). I will check that out in the am, thanks for the quick response.

If you can feel it in the brake pedal and sometimes in the steering wheel, definitely take a look at the knuckle in your intermediate steering shaft. I had mine replaced at 30kmi and it solved the problem. Good thing too.... my front end felt like it was falling apart.

I crawled underneath tonight after i got home, and discovered the f'n idiot that put my shocks on didn't tighten the lower bolt on the driver side shock, and the bolt is worked out about half way. I can't even tell if the nut is on it, I called him and left him a nice little message, really PO's me!!!! Anyhow i am glad that's all it is. Thanks for your input.
