centering steering wheel?
hey guys, just had the steering gear replaced on my truck and the thing steers much better and drives straight as an arrow. The thing is I am really **** about the wheel being centered and it is off center ever so slightly. I really don't want to go back to the dealer so my question is
of the two adjustments under neath the front, can one of them be used to make a slight adjustment to center the wheel without screwing up the "Toe"setting.
thanks

Centering the steering wheel is accomplished by adjusting the drag-link. It is the part that is attached to the pitman arm on the steering box. Loosen the two bolts and rotate the sleeve until the wheel is centered. It makes this job easier if you have a helper watch the movement of the steering wheel while you are under the truck doing the adjusting. Almost all of these trucks I have seen have the wheel turned slightly to the left from the factory. Don't ask me why. Maybe one of our resident alignment men knows that answer.

Thanks. Mine is actually to the left also, just slightly. It very well may have been like that already and I just looked closer now because they replaced the gear.

Mine's like that too. I asked the dealer about it 2 years ago and they said they would gladly do an alignment for $85.00 which of course wouldn't be covered under warranty. It's still off center.......

The guys are right Ron, grab a wrench and a pair of channel locks. Loosen the sleave on the steering linkage coming off the box. Give a twist, road test, adjust as needed. My wheel has been off for three years and I finally bothered to center it. Back in the "good ole Dodge days" all you had to do is loosen the steering wheel and move it a spline. Now they have a "master spline"......but if the master spline somehow disappears the wheel can easily be centered.
