The Hotbox can be configured for a 10 or 12" sub. It is down-firing. I have had one in my last two trucks. It certainly brings enough thunder for my tastes and is tight and controlled - perfect for the music I listen to.....BUT I don't want a ported boom boom mobile that is only good for hip hop.

Anyone know if you can do this with a Mega Cab. I'm curious about rear A/C vents getting in the way.

I once built a center console box for my F150 that turned out great and sounded awesome. Housed a 12" Orion.

If built right a ported box will go lower, sound almost as good, and have more output than a sealed box. It just depends on the woofer and most important of all the construction of the box and the way it is built.

BUT, & this is where my situation comes into play, a ported box needs about 2x's as much airspace. I have next to no room for a sealed box much less a ported one. I need .75 cf sealed or 1.25-1.75 cf. ported.

Right, i keep forgetting this is going in the center counsel . Well if you go sealed stuff it full of fluff so that the sub thinks its a bigger box than what it is and, this is strictly my opinion, i would wrap the box is some sound deadner and i would almost say put a good layer or two where you gonna mount the box. How many RMS is this sub?

BTW the reason i say wrap the box in sound deadner is because since this is a 'center counsel' then at least this way you can rest your arm on it and it wont tingle you from the bass. MDF does a pretty good job of being non-resonating but this will just help it that much more. Also since your putting it in a pretty small sealed box before you put your sub in get some or a sheet of that sound deadner or tar or whatever and put it behind that woofer. This will help eliminate standing waves and will help with your SQ and your overall output.

Im about to build a box to fit a single 12 right behind the backseat that only takes up space behind the drivers side seat. You can still access the passanger side storage behind the seat. Its .98cu ft which is pretty good for a shallow depth 12" sub. The seat still reclines almost all the way back. Its one notch from all the way back.

I'd be interested in the specs for your box. That is exactly what I want to do when I do mine.

I won't argue as I'm far from an accoustics expert BUT I have never heard a ported box of any configuration with any sized sub play rock and metal (what I listen to) as clean and as tight as a sealed box. Those charateristics are the most important for my musical tastes - not how low or how much boom-boom I can obtain.

Thats not really all that surprising. It was pretty tough for me to overcome it also but then i heard a custom ported box with the proper bracing and the right port tuning and it was night and day diff. Your right in the fact that a sub in a sealed box will most of the time have better SQ than a sub in a ported box BUT if you stick a sub thats ment to be in a ported box in a sealed its going to sound like a**.

So i will say this, if you had the room and the sub was built for it a properly built ported enclosure would more than likely be your choosing over a sealed. Why? Generally because lets face it when those double kicks start rolling you want it to BANG and who doesnt? Properly built ported sub enclosure will keep up with a sealed. I actually personally witnessed a single 18" in a big ported box both outhit and sound better than a trio of 10's.

Like i said before also it ALL comes down to installation, so since we are focusing on a sealed box (which isnt bad i just thought since i had your attention i would correct a common misnomer) i could try and lend some of my knowledge and help get you the best possible sound out of what you have to work with.
