Cat fuel filter gaskets?

I just purchased the Cat fuel filter 1R0750 and it does not have a center post gasket. I think that some fuel can bypass the filter element by going through the threads. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Can a large nitrile 'O' ring be used to make a seal for the threads? Will the nitrile 'O' ring stand up to diesel fuel?
