Last I knew there was paperwork you could get that you have to submit to NHTSB for approval. I've been in the dealer ring for 12 years and have never done one.

You can have the switch put in, there are guys here who have done it. You'll have to get the paper work though.

i *think* I remember reading here or on the TDR that a computer re-flash has to be done to let the system know that there's a switch installed.

Maynards correct and unless you have a connection somewhere, no dealer will do it without the paper work.

I just read through my service manual and it doesn't specifically say that the computer has to be programmed after installing the switch. It does say the system has to be verified/tested with the DRBIII any time the airbag restraint system is worked on. But it doesn't say anything has to be "enabled" in the software after installing the switch.

The manual makes the switch sound like it is something special (internal resistors, multiplexed, blah blah blah) so if it were me, I'd go to the dealer and buy the factory switch. Or get one from a junk yard.

Go to http://www.hemitruckclub.com and look at the manual yourself to help answer any questions.
