Calibrating fuel guage?
Can the fuel guage be recalibrated?
When the guage reads very empty, I've never been able to get more than 32 gallons into my 35 gallon tank, even when I put in several more gallons after the pump shuts off.
I was routinely able to get 31 to 32 gallons into the 29 gallon tank on my PSD.
The extra gallons really makes a difference when towing. Fueling is a huge time waster when towing a trailer.
I wanted to get an auxiliary tank, but $500 to $750 for the tank plus 4 to 6 hours labor to install just isn't worth it.

Tank size
What do you mean by very empty? When my fuel light came on I was able to put in 34.6 gal. That was 4 or 5 gallons after it clicked off. Was very slow waiting for the foam to recide to get fuel to top of fill pipe. The next tank I ran 100 MIles after the fuel light came on and put in 40.3 gallons. I had gone about 20 mile after the needle rested on the stop pin below the E. I had read a reply from someone who had ran his dry and put in 41 gallons.

As stated, there should be about 10% fuel left in the tank when you hit empty(the fuel lamp comes on) and the distance to empty goes to 0.
Here are a couple of places that do in bed aux tanks that are well worth the $800 to $1200
http://www.auxtank.com/auxtank/home.asp
http://www.transferflow.com/
The first one will sell yo a tank fo about $800 plus shipping and you can spend about 2hours to install it yourself.
Either way an extra 40 gallons or more are well worth the money and the time to install one.
Personally with the extra fuel onboard you won't be able to drive that long in one day. You should get about 800 miles before fueling up while towing You will stop long before that
Go ahead and get the tank and stop overfilling you normal tank, it's designed to have some space left due to federal regulations
