CabLight Add On Price

Has anyone had cablights added after purchase by the dealer? I wanted cab lights but couldn't find a truck with other options I wanted and the cablights. Ordering would of cost me 3-4 thousand more than taking a truck out of stock. I am trying to get a feel for an approximate price. Thanks

I dont have an sure price the truck I wanted did not have them so when we were ready to sign after all the squablin I said to the salesman, "that has the cab lights right I forget". He said, "no". So I told them sorry I realy wanted that I am going to keep looking and the sales manager said put em on. It took like 45 minutes to put em on. I have seen the lights on EBAY (dodge lights not aftermarket) for like 150 bucks so if that helps.

I've been told your looking at @ 150-180 installed for cab lights.
I was in the same boat, couldnt find a correctly optioned rig on the lot. SO I ordered mine. Why couldnt you get within 3-4K of an on the lot truck? The dealers around here sell em all for the same price....

Do dealers add on the cab lights? I would actually like them on mine now. Are they still leakproof if done at the dealer vs the factory? Scotty

It depends on the dealer, I've heard of a couple that won't install them to due the chances of them leaking. If you do decide to buy a truck off the lot make sure in the deal the dealer will install the lights and WILL warranty them and all the damage to the vehicle if they leak.

Be sure to get the salesman to put ALL of it in writing. If the dealer/salesman starts to grumble find another dealer. This is a quick indication the salesman knows his service dept won't do the job worth a crap.

I have a second gen and had them put on at the dealer and it cost me about $250 dollars including the lights which were $85 dollars. They did a good job on the install but put the wrong lights on. I tried to get them to put the right ones on but they wouldnt so I ended up buying the right lights and putting them on myself. Once I did it I kicked myself for paying a dealer to do something that was so easy.

I called around and some dealers won't. The ones that will are around $400 total. Looks like I'll get a set of guages instead at that price.

That's highway robbery. Call a couple local body shops to get estimates. Or, better yet, check the TDR for a local chapter, and have one of them help you.

It's not a bad thing paying more- especially those of you that are worried about leaking. I'd rather pay a little more and get the job done properly than pay a bargain price to get them slapped together. As a technician, I'd be spending several hours on the job (at $90/hour), but the job would be d**n well perfect when it was done.

Also got mine for around 80 bucks and installed them myself. Not very hard. Never had a problem leaking. Then again, it hasnt rained significantly here since Nov of last year.

I see a little condensation under 1 of mine... I will have to open that one up and maybe re-seal it. I paid $65 for the lights from Cabela's and did it myself. Personally I would say dont bother unless you need it. I had to put these one by "law" when I converted to a dually.

Now thers's an idea. Not even the dealer thought of that one.

Now with all that said I cannot understand why anyone would risk installing these pieces of junk. I had no choice when I ordered mine. The 3500s come with the cabmarker lights. I have replaced more factory ones than I care to mention. I have also had three complete sets of Recons. I have sent them the leakers to test and they are working on a redesign for the Gen IIIs. They will all leak. It is just a matter of time. A coworker of mine has an 06 3500 with two leaking. If I had it all to do over again I would order a 2500 with no cabmarker lights. Other than bragging rights the only difference is the cabmarker lights and the overloads. Did I mention insurance and registration costs more?

This truck and my previous Gen II combined have spent approximately fifty days in the shop for shared problems among others. I just got this one out of the shop yesterday for the HVAC blend door TSB. Yep you guessed it. I am past the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty. I did get DC to pay for 1/2 of the TSB but it still cost me $249.25 for a known problem. In summation, do a search on leaking cabmarker lights before you go drilling through your roof. The topic has been discussed many times. Better yet, does anyone want to trade me their comparable 2500 without cab marker lights. I'll even throw in a box full of defective cabmarker lights.

Took delivery 01/11/03:
2003 Ram 3500 Quadcab 4x4, LWB, SRW, HO, Six Speed, 3:73, LSD, Heated seats, Tow pkg, Laramie, Sport, Graphite Metallic, Slate interior, Mopar molded mudguards, Rear wheel well liners, Rhino Liner, 20x8.5 American Racing Chrome Kahunas, 285/55R20 BFG KO-ATs. Two leaking CP3 pumps replaced, Water leak on passenger floor that dealer can't duplicate or fix, Persistent leaking cab marker lights that also can't be fixed. Just say no to cab marker lights!
