A/C malfunctioning question

That's correct, the AC must be selected on and hi fan try this first before going to the dealer. The clutch should kick in the moment you short out the two wires if not there's something else wrong and not just low freon.

BusBoy;
Thanks for the help. The low pressure switch on my 2000 dodge was on the accumalator. Its not on the 06. I did a search, saw some of you old posts on the subject and a couple pictures. I guess its now on the compressor. I also read its a three wire connector?
So do you remove the wire connector from the switch and connect the two pins. If three which two. I assume the switch is mounted on the low pressure line? Is it possible to remove the switch without loosing freon or does the system need to be evacuated? I was under the truck yesterday and played with the wires but never really could see where they went.
Thanks for the help.

I would say the one by the compressor is the hi pressure switch but perhaps they have combined the two. Sorry I have been out of the biz for awhile and assumed the LP sw was still on the accumulator. I'll have a look at my 2011 in the morning and see what they have done with that. I thought I saw a pressure sw down by the compressor on the 2011 when doing a filter the last time. The LP sw has to read low pressure and is what cycles the compressor during normal operation to stop the evaporator from freezing up. There is a schrader valve that keeps the charge so the sw can be changed, unlikely to be the sw though.

I bit the bullet and changed out the system. The Clutch was bad and the compressor looked like it was weaping on the front seal. It had 84,750 miles on it. I don't know how long they last, but I don't need it going out on me while towing the fiver 3 months from now. Labor plus Labor equals compressor.
Thanks to you guys who put up all the info.
I wonder how MTC made out with the wiring harness on the 07.

I just finished up with replacing the coil/clutch on my '07, after deciding against the $1000 estimate from the dealer. I bought the repair kit from EBay (Moon101) and went with the clutch and coil. Pulled everything off and found the clutch very worn and grooved, and the epoxy that fills the coil melted/cracked. Hardest part was installing the new pulley, as the bearing was very snug with little room to work.
Got it all in and added about a 1/2 can of freon, she's colder than ever now. Washed out the condenser ( dirt and bugs), now looking at insulating the lines under the hood.

I just got back from vacation....without A/C!!!
The wiring harness was not put in...I had a local shop look at the a/c just before I left for vacation. They said that they put their gauges on it and that it pegged the gauges at 300...they then voided the system and replaced the fluid to the correct levels. Still nothing. they said the switches were all getting the correct ohms...
They said they called Dodge and were told that it is an "internal" issue with the compressor and that the entire compressor needed to be replaced...at a price of approx $800 parts and labor.
Needless to say, I didnt have the money allocated for the repair right before we left for vacation, so Im still without A/C...I was told not to waste my time with just replacing the clutches because that would not fix my issue.
Any help here?? I dont know much about the a/c systems..

I'm going to say you're problem is the coil, just like mine was. Pegged a set of gauges because the freon wasnt moving....
There really aren't any other components in the compressor to fail. Does your clutch try to kick on several times at first, then stop?

YES! The clutch attempts to kick on maybe 3-5 times then it stops.
Like I said, Im not really knowledgable when it comes to this issue. You say its the coil....where is the coil located and is it something I can fix in my driveway without specialized tools? Thanks for the help.

The installation is straight forward and the parts are reasonable ($100 on eBay). The seller will even E-Mail you the instructions once you buy the kit. AllforAuto is the seller's name and they even have just the coil ($40), but my clutch was always loud when engaging, so I figured it was worn, and it was.
Good luck.
