A/C malfunctioning question

Recently when I go to turn on my a/c, it wont come on. When I push the a/c button, it will attempt to cycle on 3 times then not come on. What I mean by this is that you can hear and feel the engine load go up and down like the compressor is trying to come on, but then it doesnt; just keeps blowing warm air.

I have to hit the a/c button off and on like 2 or 3 times and then it will "catch" and come on and blow cold and is problem free until the next time I start the truck. The amber light on the a/c switch does come on when I push it.

Has anybody else had this issue? Where should I check first? Fortunately the a/c hasn't failed to come on after pushing the button several times, but I dont want to have it get worse....its gonna be 104* today!

My '07 MegaCab is doing the exact same thing. I was told it's the clutch that is bad.

Dealer want's $1008.12 to replace the compressor/clutch and re-charge the system.

Anybody have any experience with the Ebay seller in Texas who has the repair kit consisting of the compresser, reciever/dryer and orifice tube for sale?

Maybe someone will chime in on the Ebay parts deal. It's $305.00 for all the parts, just not sure about an off-brand compressor. Another seller has a Mopar compressor, receiver, orifice, o-rings and oil for $400.

My AC coil went bad a couple of weeks ago got one off e-bay for 40 bucks or so. You have to remove the clutch with a puller and the coil is located behind it that is what engages the clutch. I pryed the coil with a large screw driver and installed the coil. AC is good again..

The test is easy with a test light and a jumper wire......Ben

Just buy the complete clutch for 99.00 dollars, no need to remove comp or do a re-charge takes only a couple hours to replace the clutch assembly in the truck, my 10 year old can do it. AIR PARTS 800-223-7167 kit CA-401D

My compressor started not working today. Was working great yesterday. Today was exceptionally hot for this part of Florida. Will give the old button a couple pushes in the morning and see if it works when its cooler outside.

If not will see about replacing the clutch on the unit along with the relay.

Well, pushed the snowflake a couple times this morning, no help. Got under the truck, clutch moves free. Played with the wires with no help. Put my single gauge on the fitting and it showed no pressure in the system, which will disable it as well. Headed for the Auto parts store later to pick up a couple 1lb cans.

When I first got the truck, it was low on freon. Put about 1.5 lbs in and its been good ever since, til yesterday.

I hopping its just low and not needing an overhaul.

Well, got a can of R134 and tried to get some of it the low side hoping it would take a little without the compressor running. No luck. Clutch still not coming on.

Looks like a trip to the Dodge dealer just to hear what they have to say.
Big Time Money.

You need to remove the LP sw connector and short across the two contacts this will enable the compressor so you can get some freon into the system. Once you get some in it should cycle by itself once the connector is back in place and you can finish the charging.

Thanks for the reply. I assume you mean the Low Pressure Switch Connector.
Is that located on the accumulator? If not there, please tell me were.

Thanks

Well, I did some checking and asked some people some questions today. I am being told that there is a TSB for the wiring going to the condenser/clutches and that there is a new wiring harness which costs $25 through the dealer to fix the TSB.

I have the harness on order (sorry dont have any numbers right now) and it should be here tomorrow morning.

Im hoping that this will cure the issue..if not then Ill move on to the clutches

Please post the TSB number when you know it. I just checked the TSB's for the 06's and did not see anything like that.

http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2006-index.htm

Might be 07 specific.
