Angry A/C Help! It's HOT!!

Thursday my A/C worked great. When I went to work Friday AM, cool at best. By lunch, nothing. I bought one of those cans of freon with the gauge from Auto Zone. As I put the freon in, I could hear it leaking.

Saturday, found that the pressure relief valve on the A/C compressor was shot. Turns out Dodge claims this is a "non-serviceable" part -- buy a new compressor to get a relief valve.

I'm too cheap, and it worked 2 days ago. So, I replaced said valve with a bolt (I know, risky, but if I have to buy a new compressor... what's the worst that could happen, right?).

Re-charged the system to 40 psi on the low side. Compressor runs, but air is hot. Ideas?

TIA for all replies! It's really HOT!

How much did you put in? I am guessing that you do not know the High Side PSI?

It held about a bottle and a quarter. No, I don't have a proper set of gauges, so I don't know the high side pressure. Wife is currently out of work, so I was going to "try" to see if just charging it would do it (to cheap out). I guess I have to go buy gauges to go any further, huh?

You need to vacumn it down, and try servicing again. If that don't work, you need a complete service, drier/ accumulator etc.

ok I have an 05, it takes lb 14 oz. those cans are 12 oz I think, so you may have gotten 18 or so oz in back in it. You would relay need to have the High side readings and Out side temp + Discharge temp to see what it is doing. Or vacuum it all out and recharge to 2 lbs. tad over but they work better that way.

Gonna need a compressor and dryer. You must vaccum it down before refilling with 30-32oz (1.88-2.00lbs)
