Buying new Truck, possibly tommorow, lotsa questions....
I currently have an 04 f350 dually crew cab, lariat, with 8' bed, and the turbo just gave up on it, and its been having issues all its life and only has 60k miles. But anyway, it is going to take a couple weeks to get it fixed, and I can't afford to be down that long so I am planning on just taking it in for a trade in towards a dodge. Is there any issues with the new dodges I have to worry about, I know all of htem have issues, but I don't want ot be stranded on the side of the road, or left 2-7 weeks with no vehicle?
I was thinking of getting the lariat dodge dually with the cummings diesel. I also wanted gps, is it a good gps system? How is the exhaust brake on the truck, is it as good as the electronic one the ford has? I do a lot of towing int he mountains so that is a huge feature for me. How is the comfort on long trips? Also although I am leaning away from even asking this, but is it worth renting a truck a while and waiting for the new cummings engine? Also how does the four speed auto do, I know dodge used to have issues with trannies, but is this still true? Also what if fuel mileage like, with a 24' ft trailer with about 6000lbs in the trailer?
Sorry for asking so many questions, just need some help.

Oh also, how hard is it to do oil, and air filter changes? The ford I can't get the air filter out for the life of me, is it the same for the dodge? The ford was easy for oil changes though. Also what type of coolant does it take? I was always adding to the ford and figured I would ask in case its the same with the dodge.
Also is it possible to get an 8' bed with the megacab?

Good questions bud, saved me the post. I'm a Noob to the forum and diesels. but a veteran 4x4 wheeler and fab'r. For me i'm looking at a '06 ram diesel 4x4 or a F250 diesel 4x4, but i'm leaning toward the dodge b/c the ford seems to have some issues... and the front end is on Leafs! Are the new Dodge 2500 4x4's on leafs or coils? I know they have a Solid front axle...

Not sure what the dodge is on, but the turning radius is amazing compared to the ford, I test drove one a while ago, but it was only a short trip and the salesman didnt know anything heh, and neither did i really.
And for some reason I though your username was tampax...

haha, nope, tampa4x4.....diesel. I'm hoping the rams are on coils... SFA w/coils and leafs in the rear...
I've got a '94 4runner on a '75 Dana 44 in the front fully built, and a Toy8 in the rear. I have like one of the most built rigs in tampa... and I drive it daily lol. so thats where the tampa... 4x4 came from. 4x4'n pavement really. never use 4WD unless I'm rock crawling and serious offroading. But I think I'm ready to go from a fully built nice 4runner to a stock(ish) 2500. I realize I can't off-road nearly as well as with the 4runner, but... I can tow and take highway trips easier.

First off it's CUMMINS. No "g", Ford bought that motor.
These trucks ride great and handle the load even better.
No 8' megacab. Besides are you ever really gonna ride in the back?

It takes about 30 seconds to change the air filter.
It takes about 15 minutes to change the fuel filter. Longer the first time.
If you buy the parts from Cummins, fuel filter $13, oil filter $6.89.

all i can say is that i used to have a 2002 ford f-250 powerstroke and i traded it in on an 03 2500 cummins with the 6 speed tranny and 37s on it. it was the best thing i have ever done. better power, gas mileage, turning radius, and the biggest thing is sound. they sound so uch better than powerstrokes straight piped. i think that changin the oil was much better on the dodge then the ford. im not sure what the newer ones are like but i was very pleased.
