buying a 4x4 mega cab need help

on towing capacity for 2006 4x4 2500 with a diesel, 3.73 gears, and a 4 spd auto trans the capacity is 7550# for the same truck with a 6 speed the capacity is12450#. Now a quad cab with diesel, 3.73, and a 4 spd auto is 13000#. this information is off of the dodge web site when you build your own truck. i am wanting a mega with auto and diesel but not with those kind of numbers being dropped.

If you get a diesel, the only difference in "rated" pulling capacity is in the gearing. Transmission does not matter on the newer trucks. If you have a 3.73 gear....you have a combined GVWR of 21,000 lbs.. If you get 4.10s it goes up to 23,000 lbs. That is total of the truck and trailer weight. The truck will weigh around 7500-8000 or so. Just subtract the weight of the truck from the GCWR.

Dodge does need to work on their website some. I imagine what you were seeing was the "standard" hemi engine on the Dodge truck and that is it's towing rating. I know you were "building" a truck on there, but it just doesn't work very well for some reason. I don't know what the hiccup is on their website.

Also, I just noticed you are a new member. Congrats and welcome to DTR!

Some other things to keep in mind......a dually for example does not give you more "rated" towing power...it merely enables the truck to hold more weight ON the bed and also helps in stability. That is very helpful if you are towing a heavy 5th wheel or gooseneck though.

Arrow Sunroof On Mega Cab?????

How reliable are these things? I am looking for responces from owners who have modern year sunroofs from Dodge or CHysler. I am thinking about ordering the sunroof with my Mega Cab 4x4 2500. I know the right thing to do is not to get the sunroof. But if they are tough, reliable, and require slight loving care, then why not. Looking for some answers, any help anyone. Currently leaving Iraq for home in FEB 06. SO one of my problems has been I have not been able to touch these machines. Everything has been pictures on the net, and not alot of pictures detailing the sunroof. THanks to all who have some sound advice for or against such an option. signed CPT Ron

I love sunroofs too! In fact, I postponed purchasing my '05 for a few months until the Power Sunroof option became available again. It's a proven Mercedes unit which has also been available in Durangos and Magnums for a while. Mine has performed flawlessly. My only complaint is there is too much wind buffeting at certain speeds, but that can be solved by only opening it 3/4 of the way or adding an aftermarket wind deflector. I say go for it because they are !

PS: Thank you for your service, but don't you have enough of the sun?

Arrow Mega Cab With Sunroof

I think so too. I've seen a lot of the sun in this last year. So once I get back to Hawaii I plan on using it (sunroof) to cool off the truck if parked in the hot sun and open it (sunroof) in the early mornings and evenings when the sun isn't as kick'in.
Currently in Kuwait now. The weather is cool and rain. But during the summer months, IRAQ its like two huge hair dryers blowing on ya 24/7. THe rain has arrived and it turns into a mud hole. Perhaps a good place for dirt biking or off road racing. Maybe ESPN will move in someday after this place mellows out. Plenty of fuel here. Currently I think the locals are paying 25 to 50 cents a gallon.
Getting back to the sunroof, thanks for the responce. I think the worst thing would be leaving the vehicle sit in the sun and the seal would shrink or weaken around the frame and glass. Would that be a somewhat true? What about the freezing rain, snow, ect? Once I send this truck to L.A. and drive it to Las Vegas, Colorado, across the plains and up into Minnesota giving it a taste of different types of climate. I guess a guy or gal could just cover it with a tarp after giving it a wash to get the salt off her when sitting out in the elements.
Please more comments in general on this Mega Cab and sunroof or anything to educate me about owning a Mega Cab. www.coolwake.com

Truck is being Shipped

yes, I am within strike range of owning a new 2006 Gray Mega Cab that has everything on it except tow mirrors and a bed liner. Talked with the exchange new car sales and they said it moves by rail this week to be loaded on a ship to Honolulu. Finally a truck with some Room. Yes, it cost plenty and I heard I could have done better at Dave Smith's. Going for it, only go around once.

Good luck with your new truck, I bought a new truck from them back in 2000, pretty easy deal, you can get better from other dealers, but is so easy it makes it worth spending a little extra money. Scotty

Yes they do make it easy. Dropped the last check a few days ago. It may be loaded on the ship now. I expect it in about 7 days.
