Nice looking truck and good decision on the QC and 4x4. If you ever have to use the 4x4, even just once, you will be glad that you spend the extra $ for it. And it is always a good idea to have the quad cab, now you can take passengers with you if needed

I'm going to use the CTD to haul my rock crawler Bronco. I could see having to use the 4x4 to recover a broken crawler if need be, so it is worth having. The other factors were that the wife and I may move out of the desert and back to snow in the next couple of years, and that there were very few 2wd trucks to choose from. The 2wd trucks I looked at were only a thousand or maybe two thousand dollars less than this 4x4.

I know the 4x4 will use more fuel than a 2wd, but I think it will still be cheaper to feed than the Titan was, especially with gas at $4.15 and diesel at $4.69

You can't get manual locking front hubs on a 4x4 anymore either or a gear driven transfer case, but that doesn't mean newer is better. It's near impossible to find a vehicle today with crank windows and manual door locks and a lock cylinder on the passenger door, but what was ever wrong with them?

No one wanted them is whats wrong. The passenger door lock kinda irks me but the roll up windows, manual door locks, manual hubs and manual transmissions are old school.REAL old school.

Old school's not necessarily bad. Why be forced to pay extra for "features" you don't want, that are only going to cause you problems in the future? Just because the general public are too lazy to do anything requiring 2 seconds worth of effort?

In a gas motor I prefer a manual transmission, but not in the diesel for city driving. I would prefer mechanical locking hubs on the front axle, but the dynatrac kit is far too spendy for me. Are there any options from the older Dodge axles that could be retrofitted? The dynatrac kit looks very similar to the D44 assembly on my Ford.

As for crank windows and non power locks, I'm willing to replace the window regulators when they breay for the ability to roll down all 4 windows at the press of a button, and not take off my seatbelt to reach across and unlock the door for the wife.

Thats it tho.General public AND cost of assembly and production.I bought a good looking 1500 truck in 1997.No carpet, roll up windows, manual locks and no cruise 6 cylinder. One of my techs said "you'll not be happy",everyone that does what you did gets rid of them within a year or so. I installed cruise switches, brushed aluminum step ups, matching bed rails vent shades, matching wind deflectors .Wife and drove it a year, pulled our bass boat and got compliments on the truck.Had a 1998 1500 SLT traded in with 12k on it.V8 power windows, door locks etc. Had 14k on our truck.Swapped for about $1,500 difference. Same tech said I told you so.Those non power windows and door locks were a pain.Too far not to reach but crawl to the other side to.Fuel mpg was just a couple difference.1998 SLT was much quieter etc.Drove better in general.

I was wrong on the tire size in the earlier post, I edited it just now. I went to drop off the deposit today and rechecked the tire size, they are not 285/65/18 (32.5"x11.4"), but 285/75/18 (34.8"x11.3"). Calculating the gearing it is like having a 3.37 gear set in there, so I'd think that is probably a good thing for fuel economy at 75 mph, but bad for off the line or light to light duty. I didn't really notice much difference in normal driving vs a stock truck, but it took a little longer to get wound out to 80 mph on the freeway onramp than the others (I was actually going 88).

This explains why the tires looked so much bigger than the 285/70/17 on my last truck...

I went thru the same dilemma last fall. The 08's at dave smith were a great price. So I was looking at one when they got a 05 with 10K on it in stock... Thought about it some more, and put a deposit on the 05. The options were very similar.. thou I wish my truck had the upgraded seats... The 05 has the best 5.9 ever built, gets good mileage, great power, and no emissions just to clog on me in the mountains.

Well, It must've been too good to be true. The guy called me tonight and told me he couldn't part with the truck. The search for a nice 05+ CTD continues.

There is another 2006 4x4 Quad with 32K miles at a local dealer for $22300 out the door, but it is bone stock, needs tires soon, and I'd have to add the power seat that I need.

03- 04.5 - 05- 06- or 5.9 07 all worth looking at if the miles , condition
& price is right

IMO 05 or 06 is your best bet

I bought a used 2005 and love it!! Good mpg and the extension of the power train warranty to 7/70 on the 05's for $150 is a good deal. This also extends the Cummins warranty to 7/100,000. My mpg non towing highway is 22/23 while driving around 60. My towing mpg pulling 5500 lbs is 17. The new trucks have too much emmisions equipment. Go talk to one of the Dodge Cummins mechanics if they will confide in you. Be careful the truck has not had mods like programmers and such, this can void the warranty!!

Well, it's kind of weird, but a truck I looked at a few weeks back on Autotrader popped up with a price drop. I called the dealer and got some more off followed by a purchase order being faxed to my bank. I'm going to Colorado on Friday to pick up my new-to-me 2006 Regular cab 4x4 with 15K miles. It was owned by an older couple with 4 other cars, no fifth wheel hitch or brake controller box, so it should be mint. It is as I would order it minus power pedals if I had my choice of 2008 trucks. The color in the pics is washed out, but it is flame red. I'm very pleased. I'll get to introduce myself with a 760 mile drive back to Phoenix
