Buy or lease?
Ok, I am a bit bored today, but this topic just popped into my head while I was driving (in my fabulous truck) back from dropping off a package at Fedex..
Who here buys their trucks, and who leases them? Why do you do what you do? For me, I bought mine, because this was the FIRST new vehicle I had ever bought, and I bought it because I knew it would probably be my last . I don't tow often, and when I do, I don't tow much (the most I have ever towed with this truck is 10k lbs, and that was 1 time.) I tow my jeep to a 4 wheeling event maybe 2 times per year, if that. Total trailer and jeep weigh about 7k lbs. A lot of people ask me why I bought the diesel if I don't NEED it. Well, I bought it because I wanted it, and because knowing that this truck was gonna last me a LONG LONG time, I wanted an engine that would be able to last 400k or better.. SO the cummins won out.
Thats my story, but I want to hear yours.
For those of you that lease your vehicles, why lease? Why lease a diesel truck, if you aren't in it for the longevity and are going to be trading in every two or three years? Just a question, and I am interested to hear the answers.

I own , don't lease, bought a Taurus sho 1989 model low miles 15 years ago for $ 6000. Still got it, could have leased a new one, 3 years younger for $ 300/month for 2 years.
Lease, if not a company, means driving a vehicle you can not afford to buy.
then again just my thinking

If your the kind of guy that likes to have a new vehicle every two or three years and take care of your vehicles then leasing is probaly smarter...much cheaper payment. Just have to watch the miles and damage.

If your a buisness owner the only option is to lease
I just work the residual into the monthly payment
@ the end of the lease Uncle Sam has paid for half of my truck and My buyout is .01$

I buy mine. My brother has a 06 F250. He leased his and now wants out to get a GMC dually. The dealership said it would cost 36,000 bucks to get out of his lease. He is scared to tow with his truck, and asks me if he can borrow mine to tow with. hehehe leases are losses!!!!

Ok, so if you like to drive a new vehicle every two years, and you are not concerned about longetivity, why spend the extra money on a diesel?

Ups and downs to lease vs own and last time I was looking it seems each diffrent vec somtimes has a diffrent type of lease, most dealers are pretty up front in explaining the ups and down.
Get all the info on bolth make a list noting the pro's and con's and see what one comes out on top.
A lease does work out for the better if you go though vec's every 2 to 3 years, but they all seem to have a milage cap, thats what you have to watch for.

Did you pay $6k for your '02 3500 and just saw one advertised for $19k?
What's that have to do w/ leasing?

Leasing advantages are mainly due to if you have write off's for the payments and never for more than three years. In addition, sometimes leases are better on certain vehicles, depending on the residual value and rate of depreciation. Some vehicles have great lease programs for two years, Jaguar used to. Often, Honda Civic or Accord is a good lease vehicle since when returned you usually owe less than the market value of the car, meaning it holds its value well.
A Diesel truck being a good lease vehicle. Well, that would not pencil out in my book.
