Save your 1600 and wait for some thing to break. Add to that fund once and a while and you will feel warm and fuzzy, knowing that you have the money to fix it when it breaks, plus there is usually a 500-1000 deductible so add 500 and 1600 you get 2100. So it is up to you, but I wouldn't. Most common repairs could be done for under 2100. I just had an NEW REMAN 5 spd in stalled in my 97 for $2100, I know my truck doesn't have warranty, but I had that $2000 saved as my own personal warranty for that day when some thing broke, I call it my emergency fund. It is also used for other major Emergencies, ie Hospital, washer/dryer takes a crap, etc. Just good money management.

I seem to be getting the run around at my dealer that they can not reproduce problems, I think they get busy and thats the brush off routine.

I've never heard of a $500-$1000 deductible. I have a DC 7yr, 100K mile max-care plan on my truck and the deductible is $50.

Be careful

If you purchase an extended warranty, just be sure to read it through so you know exactly what it covered. These things are very specific about what is covered and what is not covered. I purchased a 6yr/75000 extended warrenty. When I had air conditioning problems within the time and mileage limits, they covered some items and others they did not.

I bought one with my truck and if I hit the mileage or the years without using it I get all my money back. The catch is if I get to the years then I have 30 days to file for the money. If I get to the miles then I have to get a form from a dealer with certification. Even with this I wish I had saved the money and put it into an exhaust brake.

Extended warranties are great protection if you plan to leave your truck stock. But as several people have said if you into bombing then save your money because DC is going to invailidate the warranty. I've always bought the extended warranty on vehicles and it has saved my bacon several times. One big thing is be sure and get the MFG's warranty IE chyrstler, GM, or Ford. I've known a couple of people that lost their butt on these "3rd party/aftermarket" warranty companie's warranties.

If you are not going to modify the truck I personally think it would be a good investment.
