Busted Fog Light
During the truck's first wash, I found one of my fog lights busted. Has anyone gone with something other than factory lights in the factory location. Just wondering if there are some options I should consider before running off to the dealer.
Thanks

If the lense isn't busted out try clear RTV for repairs. I have done this before and works pretty good. I'm thinking about sticking some of that thick mil 3M clear vinyl over the lenses for protection.

Re:Busted Fog Light
My fog light busted early on my `03. The dealer wanted $105 for the lense and $60 to replace it. Since the lense is glass, and I have full replacement glass insurance I made the insurance company pay for the lense, and I put it in.
The dealer said you have to take the bumper off to replace it. What a crock! It took me all of 10 min., and I didn't even have to take the bumper off.
After this was done I bought the Mopar service manual. I looked up the fog light replacement, and it said not to remove the bumper. either my dealer's sevice dept. DKS! or they were trying to rip me off.

Re:Busted Fog Light
It is very busted. I'll check on what my insurance coverage is. I did find what I think is a replacement one on a website for Dodge parts for $78. I'd like to check the parts numbers though. Anyone with a part number for the passenger side fog light on an '03?

Check with PIAA. I believe they make an exact replacement for these lights. I would also place some of that 3m film over the lenses to help with rocks being thrown into them. According to Clear Bra the stuff is real good.

Re:Busted Fog Light
Both fog lamps on my '03 had busted lenses before the truck has 1000 km on it. I happened to have a partial sheet of 1/4" Lexan so I cut the rubber sealant holding the original lenses on, cut two lenses from Lexan and glued them onto the housings with black windshield urethane. It would take one helluva rock to smash the Lexan. The only problem I can foresee, is that since the Lexan is flat, as compared to the original dished lense, it is very close to the bulb. Heat from the bulb may discolour the lexan over time.

What's going on with these fog lights?I just noticed today that one of mine is broken with 3400mi.Looks like something hit it, but i wonder if there might be some other reason for them breaking? What did everybody else do about replacement?

I haven't bothered replacing mine yet. The bulb still burns and I don't want to fork over the cash yet. I'll probably get a factory replacement and put some of that clear plastic stuff on the lense that you can get from Gino's.

Re:Busted Fog Light
maybe this is too easy but here goes. I just last saturday picked up a 2003 quad cab cummins.
these trucks come with a 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty in the USA. as I picked up my truck, they specifically talked about the bumber to bumper warranty, only two things not covered on warranty 1. brake wear, 2. tire wear.
All else supposed to be covered, I indeed even asked about headlights, they said yup.
now maybe in reality its not that simple, but something I would try if my truck was inside the bumper to bumper thing before paying for replacment or buying aftermarket.
just a little food for thought.
Thanks

Re:Busted Fog Light
www.dodgeparts.com sells the complete set of fog lamps for $138. This is still pretty steep, seeing how the stock foglamps just look like a generic set of Hellas. Mine are stamped on the lens housing with Hella.

Re:Busted Fog Light
My dealer was cheeper than that...I looked at the Hella web site and could not find the stock number. Kinda wanted to pay in the $50.00...that is more reasonable. :'( Man I gotta put some shields on them babys...

Re:Busted Fog Light
I was involved in a small fender bender with a ford escort which hit me while i was stopped at a stop sign.He hit me in the driver side front bumper which crushed my fog light. I replaced my whole bumper, brackets, foglights with a take-off bumper from another truck.turns out about the only thing that is any good is the passenger fog light assembly.also the light can be turned over in the assembly to make it a left side fog light. I was planning on keeping as spare but I hate to see your truck busted. I would take 50.00 plus shipping if interested. p.s. the guy who hit had no Ins.,tag,or Lic. that sucks.
