broke tierod on pitment arm and took to dealer

Crikey! How did that happen? What where you doing at the time? Just cruising, or 4x4 ing in the woods? Do you have the newer style steering components? The one where the steering linkage goes directly from one knuckle to the other or the older setup where the pitman arm linkage connects directly to the RH knuckle?

dealer said covered may be a factory recall
the new stuff is way bigger
they replaced it all

You must have had the old setup and they gave you the new setup. I lot of guys like myself are retrofitting our linkages with the new steering parts. The new parts are Hoss compared to the old ones. Failure like yours has to be rare, however.
