"brake" light in dashboard comes on while I'm driving
I noticed there's a light in the dashboard that comes on while I'm driving sometimes. I can make the light go away when I tap the brake pedal. The light says "brake" and is red. I keep thinking its my emergency brake being left on, but I never use it and nothing happens when I check the emergency brake release. My truck has 100K miles and is still on its original set of brake pads. I am wondering if the light has anything to do with a sensor that is telling me its time for new pads?

brake fluid level sensor, your fluid is low, and when you accel, or decel enough it trips the light momentairily..... top it up and it will go away, But this is also a good indication that you have a set of pads gettin thin, using up your fluid to make them touch.

This was happening on my truck also.
I pulled the front rotors off and took out the ABS sensor that is located ontop of the hub area.
I cleaned off the grease and re-applied fresh grease and put everything back on............and the ABS/Brake light turned off and has not came back on since!
Time consuming, yes.
Cheap easy fix, yes.

brakes
Mine does it if I clomp the brakes hard and trigger the anti-lock. A gentle tap of the pedal makes it go off. So the explanation about the ABS sensor makes sense to me. My fluid level is good.

I agree with fliud level. I get seepage out of one of my rear calipers and I always know when to re fill when the brake light comes on just before my shifts under heavy acceleration. If I don't fill it soon it will stay lit longer til one day it stays on.
