Anyone do any body work on these things? I tagged a moose last night and there's some speculation it may have totaled the truck out. I think that's garbage as it runs fine, there's no frame damage, and the only parts needed are driver's fender, headlamp assy, and driver's door. My plan, if the adjuster totals it, is to buy it back and do the repairs myself.

Any of y'all remove and replace the inner/outer fender and a door skin? I might need more than just the outer door skin, but probably not. The headlight assembly is cake, I don't care about the badges, and the mirror is even easier when the door is already pulled apart.

Thoughts? Am I setting myself up for a nightmare? I know aligning panels isn't easy, but I've done it on mid-60's muscle cars and pony cars, and they were far from straight...

Don't need to worry about it anymore. Estimate is $4212, and the most expensive part is the complete door assembly. Guess when a moose butt smacks the door it bends the crash bars a bit. Should have my truck back in a few weeks and then happy times again.

 

Still happy for you that you didnt hit it square. Could have been real bad. Let us know who winds up doing to work and how it turns out.

 

I'm pretty happy about that too Bark. Chaz in Wasilla is doing to work. My first job with them was in Fairbanks when someone rear-ended my wife at the Mitchell Expy and Peger Rd intersection. They did such a good job I couldn't tell new paint from old paint. A few years back I was deployed and someone took the corner too tight, wiping the nose off my wife's Pacifica. Chaz in Wasilla did the work and once again I couldn't tell old from new. When I was given the opportunity to pick my place, Chaz was at the top of the list.

I also got lucky...the freak weather has resulted in enough business they had to hire a third shift and run 24hr ops...which means my truck should be done in two weeks instead of four.
