I would like to get new shocks and am interrested in Bilstein. I have a 03 4x4 2500, Stock tires and stock hight. My ride seems to be bouncy and I would like a firm ride. It seems everyone gets the 5100 but the colored ones are for stock hight. Which should I get and how are they different? I also read that the 5100 from Genos are valved different. If so how are they different? If I was to get 5100's are the ones from geno's the ones to get?

The 5100s are for stock up to 2 inches of lift. Your truck will hadle much better with the Bilsteins, but it is a hard ride. They also last the longest. It's all I have used for 12 years. I have used Ranchos, but they don't last. My .02.

I'm ready for shocks also , but was looking at the Bilstein 2549 ft. , 2550 r.

I just installed the 2549 and 2550 on my truck over the weekend. I was debating on the 5100's, but finally settled on the shocks listed for 8800+ GVW. It does ride a lot better now. The rear shocks that were on the truck were still factory and were shot. Fronts had been replaced at some time, but I would say were over %75 worn out. They still had a little resistance, but was not much. The install went just how everyone said it would. But overall, it was not a bad job. If I were thinking, I would have ran through a car wash with undercarriage wash prior to working on it.

I will suggest when replacing the front drivers side to jack the truck up from the frame and once the shock boot is loose, to unbolt the shock itself from the boot. You can then take the boot and work it out of the way and pull the shock straight up out of the hole. Some poeple have had to pull the battery out just to get the whole assembly out of the wheel well.

There was a rumour floating around that the yellowstock replacements weren't lasting and some folks were having problems. I cannot recall where I heard / read this information, but decided to stay clear and go with the 5100's.

5100's ride like crap. my buckboard wagon is smoother. lotta compression dampening. all the little hits come right thru em...theyre stiff. really bad in fast off road like fireroads or long dirt shell. totally loose and too much money to throw away. have no idea whats better though. not like you can try embefore ya buy em

I absolutely love my 5100 front shocks! They ride 10 times better than the stockers both on and off road. I drive a lot of dirt/ gravel and 2 track roads. I do have a 270 pound FabFours bumper on the front, that could be smoothing them out a little. But the difference between these 5100 and the stockers were night and day. Best $167 I ever spent in mods. IMHO

i feel the opposite. ive got a ranchand bull bumper on the frt too so it aint light...maybe its me

Odd dieselbeef, similar bumpers and we are both leveled. I'm running 60 psi in my fronts on stock 265/70/17. What kind of pressures are you running? How many miles do you have on your shocks? I only have about 500 miles on mine. Just curious now to see how they are in long run.

So, whats the deal with the valving on the 5100? I read that some places that sell them have different valving. Is this true? If so who has the best valving? How many of you are running the 5100 on a stock hight 4x4?

Sometimes venders can have a specially valved shock made just for them, or so they say. I'd call the vendor and ask to be sure.

Typically, the 5100s will work on trucks with 0"-2" of lift. But I'd verify with the vendor before buying.

Both Sage Carli and Sean Lorenz sell kits with Bilstein shocks. They are both great guys and will answer your questions. Give them a call and see if they can help you out.

Yep, once again, I dealt with Sean Lorenz. Great guy. Very nformative and answered all my questions even beyond shock stuff. Mine 5100's should be sitting and waiting for me when I get home from work to install.
