Bfg's 285/70/17 At/ko
I was just curious if anyone was using these tires. I love the look and want to go to a bigger size than stock. I just bought my truck 2 weeks ago! How is the ride, noise, etc...... Also, you can only get them in a D rated tire. Is that ok for our trucks? I was also wondering if I had to recalibrate the speedo by going up to the 285's. Thanks

These are great tires. Low road noise, smooth ride, great traction and treadwear. The only reason I probably won't buy a set is because there is no E-rating.

Same exact tires I put on my truck, and was the best thing I ever did!! Way better wet traction than stock, improved the "harshness" of bumps, filled wheel wells good, made truck look 95% better.
The only problem Ive noticed that ever since I put them on, I have had a slight pull to the right all the time. I was told this happens alot with the bigger tires, they are more sensitive to the crown in the roads.
As far as the ratings, if you look closely at your stock tire rating, and the BFG 285 rating, they might say "E" for your stock's, and "D" for the BFG's, but when you go up to a bigger tire, the "D" on the BFG's hold the same weight as the "E" on your stockers. You'll have no problems.
I had a dealer re-program the rev's per mile to the new tires, and speedo is dead on. Also with the 285's, It dropped my highway RPM down a bit, and so I also notice a slight increase on milage too.
My Opinion, Maybe, just maybe, I would of went with a 295, or some thing that might have been a "slight" bigger than the 285's, just to give a slight better look, with no suspension mods, to fill wells a bit more, just for a little bit of that "big footprint" look of the tires, but the 285's still really improved the truck. I think once you get into 305's, you start noticing a slight loss in power off the line, and you might get rubbing issues without some sort of lift.
I wound up selling my stock 5 tires with around 2,000 miles on them, to a gentleman on here, and used the money to buy 5 new BFG 285's, And I'm real happy I did!!

i have them on my truck. i have also had them on my last four trucks. i won't buy another brand of tire. i currently have 33,000 miles on them and they are wearing evenly. i have never had a problem with the ko's! great tire!

I have them as winter tires and they are good tires. More road noise than the Michelin tires. I had trouble balancing mine so I bought Centramatics and now they are smooth as glass.
But for summer driving I prefer the Michelin tires.

I am running the BFG A/T's size 285/70/17 and they are a great tire. However, they have a bad habit of picking up stones and throwing them back against the rocker panels. Traction wise.....they are awesome

Ok so I've jumped on the BFG All Terrain At KO 285/70/17 band wagon too. First impressions are pretty good. Had a little over 1 ton of fertilizer and seed in the back and had to go to the full 65 PSI to eliminate the sidewall flex and squirm loaded (dealer had them at 50 psi). For running empty I'm slowly dropping the psi down trying to find that sweet spot for ride, wear, and handling. Currently at 55 front/50 rear, still not happy. They seem too inflated I get a bump, bump, bump as the tread blocks go around when stopping and starting (like a bar angle tractor tire, but not as bad). Gonna try 50/45 but rather not be that low.
What psi are you guys running empty?

Love'em! I have been running these tires now on different vehicles for 10 years. Great tread life and traction is great on the little off roading I do during hunting season. All around, great tire.

D rated tires vs E rated tires
The one thing that no-one seems to address is the fact of towing heavy loads
If you have a lg trailer or carry heavy loads you may expeirence tire walk or more specficaly sidewall roll this is not necissarily bad but sure is uncomfortable when you feel that load shift just my .02 $

I've towed 10-12,000 lb several times, even with my BFG 315s and never had any kind of problem with squating or tire roll or anything. If I were towing all the time or towing much heavier then I would probably try to find an E-rated tire but these are fine for me. I don't tow too much anymore......
