I installed my rear marker lights using heavy duty double sided tape. I think they're there forever the way that stuff holds. didn't want to drill or anything like that.
Regarding the connection, I've got a trailer light flat plug and put that pigtail on the end of the marker light and plugged it in to my towing flat plug. When I hook up a trailer or such, I unplug it and use the plug on the trailer. Works well

I chose to put together my own set, conisisting of 3 separate lights. This offers the DOT "3 light" standard, as well as enhanced visibility when braking, and when using turn signals.
Other vendors market these products, but I found them for a lot cheaper here:

These people offer as good of selection of lights as I've seen anywhere. The lights I purchased already have circuitry built in to offer the different functions (running light, turn signals, brake light,etc). The center light is a little different model that allows only half of it to light up when the turn signals are activated.
