On a short bed, there are 3 on each side. 4 for a long bed, I think.

The only electrical connection is the 2 tail lights. They also have one push in type plastic fastner (can't remember what they're called) There is a ground strap on the passenger side from the cab to the bed. The filler neck and over flow have to come off too.

Better get 3 friends or an overhead lift. You'll need a few long extentions.

Lemme see if I have a pic.

8 bolts total. 4 on each side. only connectors are for the tail lights on each corner. i usually remove the tail lights, un plug and route harness away from the bed.

ill probably use a tractor and some straps to set her off. It looks like some of the bolts are up in the frame so ill need a long extension. Anyone know what size or what the head of them are? It has a bed liner so i will have to take it out to get to the head to keep them from turning.

Check it out...

The circles are the bolt holes, and the arrow is the ground strap. Sorry, that's the only pic I have. Lemme see if I have some more info...

I do, I have the service manual that I can post, but I gotta beat it... I'll try to get it later.

PM me if you want me to e-mail the info to you. It's really not that hard at all.

I don't remember whether the bolts are 17mm or 18mm.

DR Manual:

CARGO BOX
REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect the fuel fill hose and vent hose.
(2) Disconnect the tail lamp wire harness.
(3) Remove the cargo box bolts. (Fig. 2) or (Fig. 3)
(4) Remove the cargo box.

INSTALLATION
(1) Install the cargo box and install the bolts.
(2) Tighten the bolts to 108 N·m (80 ft. lbs.).
(3) Connect the fuel fill and vent hoses. (Refer to
14 - FUEL SYSTEM/FUEL DELIVERY/FUEL TANK
- INSTALLATION)
(4) Connect the tail lamp wire harness.

with looking at that diagram and the truck i guess the nut must be mounted to the bed and the bolts just drop off from the bottom, that will make it real easy. Think i will try it tomorrow.

Yes the nut is fixed to the bed. The bolts just unscrew and come out. It is really pretty easy to remove considering.

Put it up for sale if you have no need to bring it back to stock. Someone with a accident might take it off your hands.

You should be able to get 1500-2000 for the bed if in good shape with the lights, bumper and tailgate. Not sure what the hitches are selling for. But I would think it would sell quickly. Bed might take a while.
