Battery life

What kind of life is everyone getting from their original batteries? Mine is an 04.5 with the original batteries and they are still cranking, although a little slower than a new truck.

My 97 still had the ~ 9 yrs old oem batteries when I sold it and my 03 still has the oems. I think the guys in cold climates who use the intake heater a lot go thru more batteries. Craig

My 04.5 still cranks like it did the day I bought it almost 5 years ago. They've given me no reason to buy new ones yet.

I've got a weak one. With my truck being built in 6/06 that would make it about 2.5 years old.

I brought it to the dealer for ball joints and I get it back throwing low voltage codes... They said the batterys were bad. I have to wait for the grid heaters to shut all the way off even if its 50+ out or it might not crank.

I had a nightmare about it last night, I probably should go get some new ones.

My oem's were just replaced. I did not think they needed replacing, but got a P2509 code, and had them checked and both were bad and cracked under the negative terminal. I couldn't believe how much better it cranked. I was amazed that I got 5 yrs out of them; due to the heat here in Phoenix, most get 2-3 yrs out of batteries.

I am still on my originals too. Debating about replacing them, but I can't tell any problems starting now from new.

Replaced mine at 5 1/2 years on my 03. It had slowly begin to crank over slower which I did not notice until one day it was dramatcally slower and drove it another couple of weeks like this. If it sat for any amount of time a full day or two It was becoming very chancy. So I replaced mine before I got stranded.

Mine were cracked on the negative terminal too. Hmm, that's strange. Regardless, I got over 6 years on mine here in Phoenix. Never got a code, but they were croding up real bad. I think it was also turning over a little slower too.

I just replaced the OEM ones on my 06 I just bought. 65k miles and they were cooked. Truck was dead the first cold snap after I bought it. New batteries crank sooooo much smoother. The 200+ I spent on batteries sucked though...

i changed out my batteries last summer. they were working great, until the alt went south and started to cook the passenger side battery. you could smell the acid, gross.
i ended up changing out the alt, and the 2 batteries at the same time. you are supost to change out batteries in pairs if running 2, old stereo days trick, that way one good battery doesn't get pulled down by a not so good battery.
anyway, i thought that was pretty good for the stock batteries, i had around 350,000kms at that time.

What kinda batteries should I buy? I might as well replace them, I'm willing to bet one of them still has some life in it and I could always throw that one on a tractor I'm trying to sell.

How's those fancy Optima batteries?
