Ball joint bad, only 6400 miles??
What do you all think?
Yesterday I rotated my tire @ 6400 miles and found that both front tires had a like a feather affect with ware on the inside. It was worse on the passenger side than the driver. I did jack up the passenger side and put a bar underneath the tire, the tire moved quite abit. My instincts say that the ball joint are bad, upper for sure but unsure about the lowers.
So my question is my instincts correct?
Will Dodge cover this in the warrenty?
Will Dodge cover the tires do to the ball joints be bad?
Has anyone else had or seen this problem with low miles?
This really sucks with a truck that only has 6400 miles. My last truck went through a set of ball joint about 115,000 miles.

Are you running the correct airpressure on the front tires? I run 50# fnt and 60# back not loaded. I rotate every 6000 to 7000mi. and my tires still look almost new with 38000mi on them. I would take it in and let them check it out. being that it happened with such low milage I would think the dealer/******* would make it right. As long as you held up your responsibility of having the proper air pressure installed.

With those pressures I would not think it would be an issue. Check inside drivers door for correct pressure for your peticular truck/tire combo. I would take it to my dealership though and let them see whats up. After all, 6000+ miles and showing inside wear is not right.

I had ball joints done at about 6000 miles.. Dodge claimed they weredefective. The ball joints were free but the alignment was not.. I didn't ask about tires as I was in need of my truck and didn't want it there anylonger than possible. I have a friend with the same story on a 600. I just hope this doesn't happen often when the warranty is over...

Check Toe
You can check your toe at home if you want....Measure from the inside of the tires- in the front and the back about midway up the tire. You only want 1/8 inch toe in(smaller number in the front of the tire). Toe adds stability and keeps the truck from running the ruts in the road. any more than that and the truck will eat your tires quick. Sounds like you may have toe-out(not good). Do a search on the net for alighnment toe and youll find enough to keep you up at night. this is easy to adjust on a solid front axle. I wouldnt touch it on an IFS equiped vehicle.

When I got my truck back the other day the dealer checked the alignment and they said that my truck was a little toe out. They made the minor adjustments and adjusted the tire pressure, hopefully all is good only time will tell.
Thanks for everyones input.

Gents,
I posted a few weeks ago in reply to someone commenting about a squeek coming from the front end of their truck. I chimed in and commented about also having this gosh awful problem. Well the dealer finally found my problem after 5 tries at it. My right ball joint once removed was full of water and road grime. It was causing the awful screech and squeel while turning and going over bumps. I did not have any tracking problems or bad tire wear. So, just keep in mind to have those ball joints checked if something starts sounding weird up front.

I Agree with hounddog,
my service guy's have never charged me for an alignment after working on my front end. All covered under warrenty. Some of you may have gotten cheated if you were charged a fee while your vehicle was under warrenty.

Warranty ALWAYS pays for alignment with any front end parts replaced under warranty.(Nissan,Isuzu,Mazda,G.M. D.C..)I've book warranty claims on ALL of these manufactures and they ALL have warranty operation codes to go with the repair. Its ONLY covered 12/12 if its JUST a adjustment which is considered normal wear and usage.
