is anyone working on Perimeter lighting for 3rd Gens?

perimeter lighting is on most top line vehicles (ferd & chebby SUV's),
it cuts on the interior lights, the fogs in front, and the reverse lights in rear.

makes a nice well lit area for you & famliy to approach vehicle.
and makes it easy to see if anyone is monkeying around the p'k'up at nite.

it has to be pretty easy.

i've written one of the BullyDog engineers, and he blew me off.

You would use the Bed light output (and either a relay or a diode) to power the fog lites and reverse lites.

using the Bed light does a lot of neat things automatically:
- works with remote keyfob
- goes off by itself with timer.
- could turn on manuallly inside cab.

of course, there is also the delayed headlights after key off - if that is a discrete out put (prolly not, prolly in ECM)

THEN, you could have the Perimeter lighting controlled by the bed light, AND the delayed headlights, (and can't you change the delay?)

it can't be THAT hard.
and it adds alot - esp for womens safety.

if someone will point me to the wiring schematics, i will figure it out & build a box & do a how to.

have bunch of kids in our neighorhood stealing stuff that ain't tied down.
dogs were barking last nite. would have been nice to light up the area around my truck, and shine my fog lites across the yard.

plus had to unhitch the trailer in the dark and the rain last nite.
i thought about turn the key on (not crank it), set brake, and put it in reverse to light it up.

easier just to bust my knuckles than hear the horn honk.

The cargo lamp driver is WT/TN.

The reverse light driver is WT/LG.

The fog light driver is WT/YL.

I like your idea and will probably do it myself (at least with the reverse lights) because I sometimes hook/unhook my trailer at night.

Good thinking!

One note of caution. Those wire colors are NOT exclusive to those functions. For example, Dodge also used WT/YL to power the license plate lamps and front/rear parking lamps. So you are either going to want to probe the wires or splice into them close to their function.

Cargo lamp provides +12v out of cluster via C1 (connector #1).

This goes to Connector 201 (PAGE 8W-40-9) via WT/TN wire. I have not found that connector yet

Reverse lamps need +12v applied at either Connector 130 (page 8w-51-5) (driver side firewall) or splice 120. That is the first common point (common to gas, diesel, 1500 and 2500)

Fog lights need ground applied to pin 86 of Fog Lamp relay.
Other option is to apply +12v to splice 107 or Connector 219 (8w-13-43)

I just need more time to find the connectors, ID the wires, take some pics,
Build a fused dual relay box (cargo lamp provides +12v signal to energize 2 relays, one relay provides ground to Fog lamp relay, other relay provides +12 v to Reverse lamps)

If you apply +12v to fog lamp splice, you will need two relays to separate the signals, or use large capacity diodes to separate the fog & reverse circuits & still flow the amperage needed. Relays with independent fuses are better.

If you follow those points back, you should see that the OEM fuse would protect the fog lite circuit. Using relays & fusing input/outputs will protect rest of circuits. Derive fuse rating from OEM fuse box. Fuse +12v input.

can i patent a box to put on a Dodge product like this?

always wanted a patent....had one thing for company to patent, my boss told me the VP has HIS name put on all patents. so i just put it back in my desk.

I've been looking to addd some perimeter lighting myself. Since I tinted the drvr/pass windows, there is less light on the sides.

From looking through the docs, it looks like the cargo light wires go to the fron of the cab then down the drivers side windshield pillar. My guess is the connector is either at the top or bottom. (like there are lots of choices).\ha

I'll be putting my clearance lights (smoked) on this weekend (once I get up the nerve to drill the 15 holes in the roof.
I'll let you know what I find.

i am trying to get it done at work...but they keep wanting me to do my job instead of work on this..

if you want to help, go to dodgebuilder.com, and in model year 2005 (just so we are all working off the same drawings) and find the physical locatoin of the connectors & splices listed.

that's time consuming.

try to find connector/splice that is easily found and easy to reach.

pls list the page of the PDF and the physical location,
will extract & compile those pages for a how-to

hey 04ctd.

I finished my light install and heres what i learned..

The Connetor 201 is actually located on the drivers side pillar.
The (cargo light) white tan wire from the ICM(TCM? or whatever it is) actually changes to a WT/RD at that connector before it gets to the light.

I saw a couple of others that also changed colors from one connector to the next so it looks like you'll have to keep an eye out for those so nothing gets fried....

Photos in gallery.

I'm in process of hooking up 2 led lights on each wheel housing to permit night time rock crawling does that count?

I'm not a mall runner sorry!
