Debating if I want to put my tool box in the back of my Megacab. Had it in my long bed without issue, but dang, this bed is a wee bit shorter. I have the one that sits on the bedrails, so I will at least still be able to slide stuff under it.

What have you used on the bedrails to keep them from getting all hacked up?

I have a trailer, so if I ever need more room, I just hook it up. The TB does take up all the room up to my wheel wells, I do have a big box, it is about a half inch away from the front of the wells.

Do I regret it? Only when I am thinking about putting stacks in

I have a bed liner, so I'm not worried about the rails.

I wanted stacks for the longest time, but I just can't bring myself to do it to this truck, especially since I plan to put a cap on it.

I've been thinking the same recently too. I desperately need a tool box. I had them on my other trucks and didn't seem to mind they were SB. I guess I'm more aware now than in my wild youth.

My truck's already got holes in the bed caps and rails from the PO who had a box. Might as well fill them in. You can use a strap of rubber to lay under the box between it and the rails to keep from metal to metal contact and it'll be fine. We always had angle iron under there anyway from the rack/rails.

I agree with over the rails box instead of a chest. You'll at least have a little room to stick stuff underneath.

I am seriously considering one for the jackall, jumper cables, rope, wheel chocks and STUFF that seems to accumulate but is never in a convenient location.

My truck is White so I used white replacement rubbers for floor squeeges. The only time the toolbox bothered me was when hooking up to my fiver but I solved that with a backup camera mounted on the toolbox pointing at my hitch.

They're not the best... it's kinda dark outside. Sorry the back of my truck is kinda redneck. (I'm refined... no beer cans or animal parts...)

There is room to move forward, but the lid will hit the glass if it is any farther forward. If you have side opening lids, you can get another inch out of it.

I keep a toolbox made for a small truck in my bed. The nice thing is that it sits lower than the bed rails and most people don't even know it's there. I have the DeeZee diamond plate bed rails on my truck. They are the shiny ones and I scuffed them up and painted them black with that rattle can bed liner paint. I think it looks great....

I have a 20" deep toolbox in my shortbed. I put a piece of channel in the grooves of the bedliner to rest it on, works real good. Mine is not a bedrail to bedrail type box. I still have 4-1/2 foot for loading area, a foot of clearance under the box for long stuff. I have a couple different trailers for hauling big stuff, set my truck up for trailers rather than using the bed.

Get some rubber trailer floor mat for under the tool box. Some trailer sales companies will sell it by the foot.

I have the diamond plate bedrail caps on my 00, they have been there nearly 10yrs and still look great. Just one tip on bedrail caps, put foam tape under/along the outside edge of the diamond plate. I have seen paint badly damaged by railcaps gouging the paint. I have had guys ask me why my caps did not ruin my paint. I am really supprised that foam tape was not supplied with the caps.This is an easy fix, and well worth the effort.

I don't have a tool box, but I do have a roll up JR bed cover, sets it it own containment box right where a tool box would go. It does get in the way sometimes.
