Any tips for squeezing out a few more MPG?
My truck really does get good fuel economy--2WD Dually, 6 spd, 3.73 rear end. It averages approx 18.7 MPG with everyday driving (to work and back-empty). But with Diesel being $2.75 per gallon in Mississippi--I sure would like to get a little better mileage?
Any tips on how to slightly increase the MPG? So that I can S-T-R-E-T-C-H the dollar? Is anybody running French Fry oil in their Cummins? Thanks

Right now I am testing out a Rokktech sensor, and will have a straight pipe here within the next week or so. Also, I have drilled out the stock air box. The best I have gotten on the highway, in my 03 SO 4wd, is 23, averages about 21 on the highway. BUT, I drive with a real easy right foot, and keep it between 58-65(speed limit is 55 on roads that I drive on). Around town I get between 15-17.5(speed limit most places 45).
I'll let you know how these simple, cheap mods do. I, too, am looking for more mpg, and am all ears. Diesel is 2.95 here today

it all depends on how far you want to go. I would start with inflatting your tires to max PSI. Make sure that you stay under 2000rpms for shifts. If you want to get fancy, Quad XZT or Granatelli Big G Mileage Miser for chips which I hear 2+mpg. Make sure that you have free flowing intake & exhaust. Tone ring mod or Roteck crank timing sensor which is good for a little extra low end & +1mpg (I only got about +1/2 but mines a 610 engine). Cams I've heard to be +1-2mpg.
As for WVO (waste veggie oil), I do that in smaller amount. I've been chicken since mines still under warranty. But I've added up to 25%, but I dewater filter to 5 microns & blend with kerosene & PS. It comes to about $0.80 a gallon & I get about the same mileage with the stuff. I use it as an additive for lubrication
Just to let you know I've gotten a 23.2mpg as my best to date hand calculated with 33" 325s.

I'm running 100% Homemade Biodiesel and still getting the same mileage. I do have a problem with always getting hungry for Mexican food though
The Cummins Luvs the stuff, as long as you properly control the process it won't hurt it at all.
I just love paying about $1.5g, when everyone else is paying almost $3

SuperGewl,
Please overlook my ignorance, but can you place a post on how to
make "100% Homemade Biodiesel" for the rest of us? Pointers such as: ingredients needed, processing required, additives, special equipment needed, etc, etc.
To be honest, I have been afraid to run this in my truck. I do not want to ruin a $6000 engine while trying to save a few dollars on the fuel...

All of the above are good suggestions, In addition any programmer with a "Tow" feature and that defuels for shifting will increase your mileage. I get 19+ with my truck and I am running 35s. That is city driving to boot. On a recent trip to Vegas from San Diego I got 23 but there are a lot of hills between here and there.
I have some buddies that like to fry turkeys. I have used the oil for fuel in small amounts like 5 gallons at a time mixed with kerosene and cetane additives. It also gets filtered thru a 12 and 5 micron filter and a water seperator before it gets into the gas tank. Thing runs really quiet when I do that. Smells better too. I have also used my own crankcase oil after an oil change. it is messy but burns just fine. Good luck!!!!

Blessed,
I got an inexpensive tonneau cover. It seems to be worth about 1 mpg at 55-60 where I normally drive.
currently I'm averaging 19.6 for the last 6000+ miles of winter driving with winter fuel and ULSD. Town and country.

2. Diablo Predator on Economy Performance Tune (100 RWHP 170 ft/lb Tq). [or so I've been told. I couldn't know first hand as they are illegal for street use in CA)
3. Put a Boost Guage on along with your FP and EGT, but watch your Boost. Keep it under 10# at ALL times unless you want to have fun and with full knowledge you are trading fun for fuel.
Average 19.75 with about 75% freeway at 65-70, some fun. Best so far has been 21.25 but that included a lot of mountain driving at 45-55 or so, some fun. (9 miles short of the 700 club)

I have a 6spd too. Coasting goes along way towards mileage. Anticipate traffic, stop lights etc. Shifting early, 1600 to 1800 rpm. I regularly get 740-750 miles to a tank with an occasional 760-770. Only once over 800 (831). I was using 2nd, 4th and 6th only at that time, but I'm not sure the truck liked that too much. My mileage is better in town than on the highway (dang low gears!).

I wish it had one more gear, would like to be able to cruise at 65 at less than 2000 RPM, was thinkin of trying 315's on H2 wheels, think that would help on the highway?

Okay here goes. How to improve mileage.
If you get that mileage at 70 drive 65,
at 65 drive 60
at 60 drive 55
at 55 drive 50.............
Oh yeah --mileage is great if you leave it parked and ride your bike.
Sorry for the attempt at humor. In a good mood since it is Friday.

first and foremost you have turned off the turbo? If not just hit the turbo supend button under your dash. Your truck will not have near the acceleration, but without the turbo you will use way less gas. I disengage my turbo for most everyday driving, With the turbo on i get about 16.5 when disengaged i get about 22 on the highway and 20 in town. As long as you can stand the slow acceleration you will love it. I just turn it back on before i start to haul a load.

Hmmm, that must be another option I don't have, the
"TURBO DELETE" button!!
Where can I get the kit?
I do try too keep boost under 10 pounds when shifting though if I'm trying to be frugal.
Still playing with my BDTD, so far 'extreme' and 'performance' cost me 2 MPG, 'tow/economy' is downright boring though!!

i was concerned with economy when i first got my truck too. the i realized that i enjoyed the 1000 ftlbs under my foot too much. so in favor of economy, i spent a few hundred bucks on a toyota corolla to drive around on quick trips.
