Another recirc door question

I had the recirc door fixed on my 06 last week at the dealer. The part number installed was 68004226-AB and included the housing, servo and recirc door.

A friend of mine who also has an 06 had his recirc door replaced back in April of 2007, using the same part number above.

My question is has Dodge changed something with this recirc door assembly to prevent future recirc door breaking or has the same assembly been installed in my truck that was there when I bought it new in Feb. 06?

Thanks.

Not sure on this case specifically, but generally the suffix "AB" on the part number indicates that there has been a revision made to the part. It may have been an improvement to the durability of the part, or any other reason.

I'm thinking the new part has a stop built into it to keep the door from going too far and breaking the tab off. Pm ratlratl, he should know.

The 68004226AB part is supposed to be the improved assessmbly. I just got finished (2 hours ago) replacing mine and the new part is different; hopefully better. I used Ratl's instructions and it was pretty straight forward.

Mine was $36 + tax from Haddad Dodge in Bakersfield.

Recirc Door - I think

I have an '06 2500 and it sounds like I have the same issue. The fan is blowing and some cool air is coming out of the vents, but something definitely isn't right. The AC is not cool enough and the force of air is weak. Does this sound like the same issue. Do you mind me asking what it cost you to have this problem repaired at the dealer? What needs to be done to push this towards recall? Perhaps a safety issue? Thanks. Paul Findly

Did you have the Dealer recalibrate the positioning of the door after you put a new door in?

Paul, If you have the fan on high and never get much air out the vents, then you probably have the recirc door issus. Cheapest fix is to remove the 3 screws holding the fan in the housing (under the glovebox close to the floor), pull the fan out, reach inside and pull the broken door out. Replace the fan and do without the door.

Recall? Problem has been going on since '03 at least, not a chance for recall IMHO.

I pulled the door out initially, but still wasn't getting much air out of the vents. It improved, but when it's 110F I knew it needed to be fixed. With RatlRatl's instructions it was very easy. Heck, he even tells you what length extensions you need. It is intimidating thinking you'll have to unbolt 90% of your dash, but it's a logical progression with pics to help out. I wouldn't hesitate doing it again......... hopefully on someone else's rig.

I think recalls only happen for safety issues..........

Paul,

It was $291.00 at my local dealer. As indicated, you can very easily remove the broken door yourself and do without the recirc function. Mine broke this last February, and I tie wired it back in place (covering the recirc vent) so that only outside air could come in. Worked fine up until we started having these 100+ degree days. Recirc really makes a difference in the capability of the A/C to blow cold.

Good luck!
