Amperage Draw when off?
Hello,
I have 1.83 amp draw when the truck is off on the stereo circuit alone. Fuse #11. This seems excessive to me.
Is this normal? Does anyone know what the truck draws as a whole when off?

I don't want to say 100% but I did this when my old batteries died. I want to say with 99% certainty (well for a 05 model) is that the amp draw was around .035amps (less than .1) that accounts for everything on the truck. Now I have a radar detector, CB, Brake controler, and a inverter in the box, so I have a few extra's (that use power to save memory) so i was at like .065 amps. Still way under the .1am. If your using 1 amp or more, that's way excessive. I take it you did the inline test from the cable with the other battery disconnected? (yeah just one of those ooppps moments).
But I'm pretty sure those are the amp requirements.

Hello,
I pulled the fuse and put the meter leads in each side of the fuse holder. Neither battery was disconnected. Think I need to verify my meter accuracy. It is a 5 dollar unit. Guess I'll put the amprobe on it.

99% of the amprobes are made for ac and not dc. get a vohm meter that has the current going through it to measure it. set it on 10 amp and remove the fuse and run the current through the meter. there is several things that run off of that fuse. one of the culprits that draws about that amount of current is the under hood lamp. check it first

taso5ct you are correct it is not that high. with every option it totaled 0.075 but not many people have meters like i do and i rounded it up. i checked mine and it is running 0.038

Typically on any car anything less than 350 mA (0.035A) is acceptable with some rare cases of cars publishing a spec of 0.050A or less. Those reporting 0.035-0.038A are in the right range, Over 1A will cause you batteries to go dead in short time if it is not started fairly regularly. If you already know which fuse is reducing the draw then it is just a matter of unplugging items on that circuit one at a time until you know which component is causing it. Typically it is an aftermarket item causing the issue but it can also be things like lights not turning off (ie trunk or glove box lightts) due to faulty switches. You said it is on the stereo circuit...is it a factory stereo in the car or aftermarket? If it is aftermarket are you positive it is hooked up right? There should be one wire for constant power (clock, memory, etc) and one to turn it on with ignition switch, sometimes people hook both up to constant power. Either way try unplugging the stereo and see what happens.
