amber out of headlights

wondering if anyone has taken the amber pieces out of their headlights. seen a few truck with it done...really dont want to buy new ones. how do i do it?

IIRC I think they put them in the oven under low heat to loosen the glue that holds the clear lens on-just be careful, you don't want to "cook" the light!

I just took a utility knife and ran it down the parting line, it just seemed to come apart, caution very dangerouse activity.

Is the removal just cosmetic or does it improve the lighting?
