Am I getting hosed on this truck?

I was driving on the NY State I-88 and was being tailed by a brand new 2500 CTD in light blue. We had stopped at the reast stop and I complemented the guy on the truck. He stated that he just left the dealer with it and it had 50 miles on it. He said he traded in his 2005 2500 QC SLT CTD Long Bed (few and far between around here)4x4 4sp auto w/ lim.slip, 4:10 pow. seat, sliding rear window, w/ 46,000 miles at a deal 40 miles from my home. He told me that it was already sold to an employee at the service dept.and they gave him 28K on a trade in. He told me that he religously trades them in at the same dealer every 2 yrs. or 46,000 miles.

I called the dealer on the chance it was available and it was. I was given the truck to use for 24 hours before it was cleaned and preped for sale. It had a real nice ride, quiet, fast, smooth,no body work, not even a scratch.I was getting (on the computer) 18.8 round town and 24.5 on the interstate. It was dry with no leaks. I crawled all over the rig looking for a flaw and found none. We settled on $29,200 for the truck with new 265/70's on/off road tires and an over the rail liner. I was not that fond of the tan over tan colors, but after looking at tons of junk I couldn't let this go. What do you think?

Sounds like a good deal to me for such a clean truck. Personally, I really like Lt. Almond and Taupe.

check on edmunds and nada and autotrader.com and put in mileage etc and zip and between those 3 you will get a good idea what it is worth. Last march, of 06 I could have bought an 05 slt dually, but it had 6 speed not auto, with 30K miles for 29,9k. I never have bought a new truck, but got a new 06 because of 0% deal. Unless you are going to pay cash a new one may not cost that much more if they still have 0%. Even if they don't still have 0% or rebates, price it against a new one and see what difference is. Good Luck

28k is the least that you could have paid- - - - - but I would say that you got a GREAT Deal on that Truck. The mileage is nothing on that engine and you dont have to worry about the first 20k of poor mileage!

Hey, at least you won't have the woes of breaking it in. If this truck is clean as you make it out to be it is probably a good deal.

I was surprised of the condition. I would buy a new one but after reading a book by Dave Ramsey I am Leaning to only used 2-3 year old cars. He states that even with 0 financing you loose too much the first couple of years and the dept is higher than the value of the vehicle. I did buy my wife a new Subaru though. The new one was the same price at a discount as a year old one on the lot and and for sale adds as I paid for the new one.

I discussed with another dealer a dark blue 2006 *ST* QC 4x4 8'box CTD NO OPTIONS w/ 5K miles and an odd Carfax. It was preped and inspected and titled a couple of times in 4 months??? I just couldn't go for it as it had roll down window. Its value at KBB private party was 30k about what I could have gotten it for. Between the two it was like" 6 of 1 half dozen of the other". Crank windows in a reg. cab is bad enough but I can't hadle that in a QC.

Down here in TX you can but a brand new 06 2500 4X4 qc auto slt for 29k. There a few dealers around here with a lot full of 06's still and they are coming WAY off the sticker(12-14k)
