Re:am I crazy

My truck is also my daily driver. Very rarely do I tow anything. From time to time I will carry quite a bit in the bed. I got the Cummins so I would have a truck that will last a long time and also for the fuel economy. Not to mention, diesel fuel is only $1.45 where I live. I also love the sound/power of turbocharged engines. Gas engines with turbo require premium, but with diesel, it's just straight #2.

Re:am I crazy

Mine's an oldie, but it's my daily driver . Right now, the bed contains a snow shovel and a milk crate. The most it's ever had in it was a garage door. I have never pulled a trailer with it. It's way more truck than I need. Every time I drive it, it makes me happy. I need that.

Re:am I crazy

I absolutely hate to be limited by anything. Can't tell you how many times I have said " if I only had something to haul, pull or whatever". Not anymore and never will again. My truck starter out as a hot shot rig and now is my daily driver. If I ever get ahead enough, it will pull boats, travel trailers and snow birds out of the snow. Just can't seem to get enough enjoyment out of driving my rig. I even have the wife thinking I got a girlfriend. Actually she would prefer I had a girlfriend cause of the time and the money I want to put into my rig. My list of goodies goes on for a mile and one day she'll get all of them and I probably will just start over again. I actually plan on giving this truck to my son when he's 16 and he is only 6 now.Tell me what kind of vehicle has that much of your confidence and I'll show youi a CTD owner.

Re:am I crazy

Mines a daily driver/puller/anithing else I want it to do. I pull trailers every day mostly and during the winter I haul salt for a friends snow plowing business. I bought it because it was a Dodge and I wanted a Diesel. Our Case IH tractor has the same engine in it as my truck and I knew how well it ran so I was not leary about buying a diesel which most people said would be sluggish and loud. Well its not slow but she sure is loud 8) "TGFC" Thank god for my Cummins ;D

sadly empty i get about 14.9 mpg......i used to get 17-18 but it has gone down...why i dont know........maybe my foot has gotten heavier...............plus my speedo and odometer are off becuase i have 315's on now!

There is a percentage you should multiply your mileage by, to come up with a proper number. Your mileage may have only dropped a few tenths, compared to what you are seeing.

I don't know the number to multiply, but it depends onyour tires. You might want to rework that mileage number,, you may be suprised what you find.

My two Dodge's get Mileage in the mid teens,, but then again, both of them are at, or over 500RWHP. Towing heavy they both get down to about 10-12MPG. But, the Smiles Per Mile are well worth it. It's great to hear a hard working Cummins under the hood.

Re:am I crazy

Mine is a daily driver too. I'm sure glad to see that others are getting under 20 mpg on average. I shure would like to know how some of y'all are getting 23 or 24 mpg, but I have not turned off the a/c since I got the thing This truck does ride a little harder than my '96 1/2 ton but it is so cool, who cares.

Re:am I crazy

The way to get above the 20 mpg is to drive at 65 and have a very light foot. I just got back from a hunting trip to Idaho with 3 other guys and all of our gear. We were going about 75 the entire way with that load and about 60 of the miles going off road in the mountains. We ended the trip with 2218 miles and averaged 18.3 mpg, hand calculated.

Hey GuyL go look at a posting (Curious at what dually 4x4) it is a couple of topics above this one is.It will give you a idea what other people get on fuel mileage Mine is dailey driver, it is my fix for being a heavy equipment operator from back in the early 80's. Wife thinks I'm a couple of bubble's off cause I love the smell of diesel burning in the morning.

Re:am I crazy

I can get 99 MPG. All you have to do is reset the overhead while coasting in neutral down a hill. I get this mileage all the time. ;D Now to be more realistic with the mine gets better than yours requires that you run some serious miles before resetting the computer, not just at every fill up. My overhead currently shows 17.1 during the last 2014 miles with various types of driving conditions, very light towing only.

Re:am I crazy

I bought my truck for a daily driver. I do not even own a trailer although I would like to someday. I am a diesel mechanic by trade and would not own anything else. But hey everybody has their own opinion.

Re:am I crazy

Do the CTD, it's SWEET ;D.
I may tow 3 times a year, this truck is made for daily driving with the knowledge that you can tow the house when you get ready to.
It's all about the CUMMINS man, the CUMMINS.
Go for the BIG CTD ;D
