am I crazy
Well here goes... I love trucks but always get rid of them because of the gas costs... had bronco expedition, xterra and between them always had a sedan... S4, x-type, mustang cobra....
now I want to get a truck again and my friend has a 99dodge with a diesal and just talking said he gets 20-22 mpg on diesel which is cheaper then my premium fuel I have always needed.
I will hardly ever tow anything maybe a boat twice a year in the water and out... use the truck for camping, but nothing a car could not do. but i was looking at the diesal 2500 dodge 5 speed or auto either way no problem...
basically how many guys here just have a 2500 or 3500 diesel just to use daily that don't tow?
am i crazy??

Re:am I crazy
Mine is a daily driver. I just figured when I bought the truck that maybe in the next few years I will get a 5th wheel and don't want to have to buy another truck. It's been a great daily driver and as of today I am getting an average 22.3 mpg.

Daily driver, never tow anything (though I'll occasionally fill the bed up with stuff), great for camping. The 6-speed is great, even in stop and go traffic.

Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
Re:am I crazy
Daily driver here too. I got the Cummins for a couple of reasons. One, I just like diesel trucks and I wanted one. Two, I knew it would get better gas mileage than the other truck I had. Three, I knew I could run it for a REALLY long time if I wanted to.
I run empty 95% of the time. Occasionally I'll pull a boat or a flatbed or something along those lines, but my CTD certainly doesn't get worked like it was designed to. I sure do like it though....and the fuel mileage is great....17-18 city, 21-22 highway.

Me too. I run 100% unloaded. but in less than 20 months of ownership, I have nearly 48,000 on the clock. I needed something that would last 8-10 years, or around 300,000 miles, and the Cummins option seemed logical.

Drive mine every day, biggest thing ever towed was a 22' camper, towed it a whole 13 miles once for Dad. Seem like the more doughnuts I eat the bigger the load it has to carry . 17-18 mpg daily, 20-21 highway and I love it.

I use my CTD as a daily driver also. Gets great fuel milage (17/18 mixed and 19/20 Highway) even with my heavy right foot. Tow a 32' TT and get 12 to 14 mpg doing that. After years of using gas trucks for daily drivers I could not imagine going back after owning a CTD.

I thought the HO couldn't be registered in NY? Isn't that one of the 3 states that the '04 is only available in the denutted version? Just curious?

Re:am I crazy
For once in my life I just wanted something big! A Man's Truck. This one certainly is.
I love the power, the gas mileage, the diesel sound, and the turning heads to look at it.
It is now pretty much the family vehicle. Haul our boat maybe a dozen times a summer, otherwise no loads to pull.
Currently, at 7020 miles, geting about 20 mpg combination highway and city streets.
If I continue to love this truck as I have for the first 90 days I've owned it, I'll never want anything else.
