All you '06 owners

I'm kicking tires right now on an '06 CTD standard club cab, auto trans. Still not on the same page with the dealer yet on the trade, but I think they will be calling again.

My questions are: From the '03 I have now -
1. Has DC gotten the 70mph vibe corrected on these?
2. Lift pump issues resolved with the in tank unit now?
3. Ball joint problems remedied?
4. A/C problems worked out?
5. What is that god-awful smell that the exhaust makes? What happened to the good old diesel smell?

Thanks for responses and any issues that I may have not addressed that I may need to know.

What is that god-awful smell that the exhaust makes? What happened to the good old diesel smell?

i don't have an 06, but my 05 has 3500 miles on it so it's pretty new.

the 70 mph vibration is an inherant problem with the engine, it's just the naturally harmonics of the cummins at that rpm. mine does it at 70ish, but if i go 75 it's fine.

lift pumps are seemingly fixed. in 05 they put the pump in the tank.

exhaust smell is kinda funny smellin, i think it's the new engine more than anything else.

ball joint/ ac don't really know the trucks are too new to tell just yet.

good luck and conrats on the new rig!!!

1. mine does not vibrate up to 85...fastest I have had her so far.
2. to my understanding it is not an issue any more
3. n/a, cannot tell you as I have not experienced any problems
4. a/c freezes my big butt quickly...puts out very well
5. mine smells like a school bus when you walked behind them as a kid...all diesel to me but I am a diesel virgin still.

Just put on Westin side steps tonight....Line-X going on Thursday......JUST DO IT!!!!!

I have a 05 with 3500 miles on it I just drove it to texas and back to missouri going 70 to 75 mph and had no vibe.
also my understanding from the dealer is that baljoint problems are fixed.

I have 1,000 miles on mine and have not experienced any vibes. I was thinking the smell was the new exhaust system, because it does not smell at all like my 6.9 in my 85 Ford.

555s dont have a cat but the 600s and newer do. This is your difference in smell. Mine still smells like a diesel for the most part.

They sure are quiet. My son had his new dually idling in front of the house and it was so quiet I asked him if it had a Hemi in it. Didn't go over too funny, but I liked it .

just to clarify a few things about the vibration issue. if my memory serves me correct there are 2 different vibs that we may be speaking of.

the first was a driveline vibration that occurred at 70 mph. this was caused by an inbalanced driveshaft, this problem was talked about a few times in the past on this site. my truck doesn't do this, and all the new trucks should not do this either.

the second vibration, is the one that my truck has, occurs at roughly 2100 rpms which is about 72 mph. this vib is the motor spinnin at that rpm. this issue was also talked about in length on this site. it's not really an issue at all, it's just the internal balance of a big inline 6. some trucks may not to this either, which is good for u. my truck smoothes right out above 75 mph, and has no vibs all the way to 110 mph.

Thumbs up

06 qc auto 373 2500, no smells, no wabbles, I use air for defrost windows at times no problem, just did a 2 day highway trip 60 to 75 mph smooth even with the great big cooper snow tires studded, and 22.8 and 22.9 mpg on paper, so far looks pretty good, between 1500 and 2000 miles on her so far and still smiling
