Adding HomeLink transmitter?
Has anyone added the homelink "universal garage door opener" to a non Lariat Ram?
Trying to decide Lariat vs SLT.
Don't want:
- Electric transfer case
- Leather
- 2-3000 price difference
Do want:
- Homelink
- Heated Seats
- Dual Zone climate

Steven,
My wants and don't wants are similar except I don't want heated seats. I decided to go with the SLT and do without Homelink and dual zone climate and save the $$.

I'd agree. The heated seats can be added aftermarket. We lived without dual-zone before. But the homelink feature is a nice to have. Not seen a picture, but on some vehicles it's pretty easy to add on after the fact.

OK, you do get a few more bells and whisles with the Larime package, take for instance the Power Pedals- which are great for me because my wife is 4'11" and I'm 6'; You also get the Compas and Homelink package; Remote Radio controls on the steering wheel; Dual Zone heat /air; Security system; Remote entry;Auto Dim review mirrors;Infintity Speakers (7); Fog Lamps;Electronic shift Transfer Case; 8-way Power Driver/Passenger seats;Storage in the front center cushion.
I love those bells and whistles
I started to price some of the individual things that I might really like to have if I didn't buy the package and it was not worth the price to add them later

I went with the Laramie mainly for the dual zone climate controls and heated seats, plus the fact I would have ordered everything else anyway - cast alum. wheels, 6-disc CD changer, power pedals, etc... . Didn't really want the electric transfer case, but now that I have it I like it. Dual zone climate control is laramie-only, and adding on would be cost prohibitive. Dual power seats are also a laramie-only feature. In my case the price difference between the Laramie and a loaded-up SLT was in the $1000 range.

Didn't realize that the laramie seats are both power...hmm..
Most of the others are options on the SLT (power pedals, steering wheel controls.. compass too) except for the few (dual, homelink, power pass seat, heated seats).
I know I can add aftermarket heated seats, and the dual-zone is a nice to have, but rarely gets used in my Explorer...
But can the homelink be added on?

I too am curious about the Homelink...I couldn't find anything on Dodge website (or the entire www) showing a retrofit kit. I did find this aftermarket auto-dimming mirror with built-in Homelink. No price on the link, but I bet it is lots of $.

On a BMW forum, I saw how someone made a homemade kit by placing a disassembled remote in the overhead console. He picked up a small momentary switch from Radio Shack and wired it to his remote. The only thing visible was the small pushbutton switch.

OK folks, so where do I go and what do I need to do to modify to get heated seats? I have the '03 SLT with leather...and cold butt up here when it's -30 in the sun (wind chill below -50C). I don't want to buy new seats...too much $$, just the heating pad.

NEW LARAMIE package (no electronic 4x4)
for all those people out there that loved the laramie package and the leather, etc...
but hated the 4x4 on the dash, their is a new laramie "j" package
dodge took the laramie, and deleted:
6-disc cd
passenger power seat
electronic 4x4
dual sliders for a/c, heat
a few more things, but that the big stuff
price went down atleast 1400 or so, FWIW

Steve,
Try an local interior shop if you don't want to DIY. I forget the cost, but it seemed reasonable.
DIY?

Hmm...more food for thought Tommygun.

PADZZ - The PIAA's are mounted on a 3/8 steel right angle bracket outboard of the grill guard and in front of of the bush bars. The PIAA housing is about 3/16" away from the grill guard support so as not to touch if I start to bounce around. Had to drill a 3/8 hole as this as the existing holes would have put the lights too far up front for my liking. No problem.
Sorry, no digital pic's yet....we're a behind a bit on technology spending but have a nice truck!
