accessory light
I want to install an LED light in my camper shell, using a two prong plug to disconnect when I pull the shell off during hunting season.
I have the light mounted, and it looks good, and I am happy.
Sop, where do I find a hot wire to hook into?
I would rather not run all the way up to the engine compartment, and it doesn't pull the amperage like an incandescent light, so can I hook directly to a hot wire in the tail light? and if so, which one? I will have a switch in between the disconnect plug and the light, too.
Thanks.

I can isolate the hot line on the 7 prong trailer connector, but I had wanted to run the wire along the inside trim, on the camper shell, to where the brake light on the shell (up top, in the middle) runs down into the side. that one only comes on when the brake is pressed or I would tie into it. Can I go to a hot wire in the tail light? How do I identify the hot wire?

I think everyone thought you wanted a aux light... sounds like you want a 3rd brake light... If your wanting that, look under the bumper, there should be a 4-way flat trailer connector down there, you could just plug into that 4 way and have the light you need that will be removable..
SORRY, I just reread your last post... the simple answer is NO unless you plan on always having your lights on when you want to use the interior light on the cap. The wires on the tail lights will only be charged when the lights are turned on... If your dead set on not going all the way to the cab, then your stuck with cutting open the wiring harness (somewhere under the bed) fishing out the hot wire that goes to the correct pin on your trailer connector...
Another option is to just go with a disposable battery led light, they last a long time...
