Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
I put on an aluminum Hurst Tee handle that I have had on four trucks and two cars, the Hurst letters are starting to wear off. The original shift **** is still new and will go back on the truck when I am ready to sell it.

Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
3750 miles, **** at 85 degrees to the right. All you Dudes ;Dwith the Larmie must have an insert, I am an SLT owner and I do not see an insert on mine- appears to be some sort of plastic material.
I am sure 8)they all rotate to the right because that is where we apply the most pressure, particularly trying to get it into reverse.
Even though I can not rotate the **** manually, I am sure 8)it is either the **** or the entire staff of the shifter that is slowly rotating. I will be interested to hear back from those putting glue under the Laramie insert, bet it doesn't work!
Mr. Knowitall :P

Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
Grab yerself a small flat screwdriver and dig between the **** and the shifter thingie. It will come out. I really don't think DC put different shifter ***** inserts in different trim trucks. But ya never know...

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
MrBilly, the plastic on the SLT is the insert we have been talking about. I have a SLT, mine rotated, I removed it, added a small dab of glue, no more rotation.
The glue I used was black silicone sealant/adhesive.

Grandpa, it isn't the **** itself turning - I can't turn mine either. It's the little plastic 123456R insert inside the ****.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I wasn't trying to turn the ****, just the insert with the palm of the hand twisting a little while shifting. Mine still doesn't move, but from the other posts it does seem to increase with hotter weather. I'm parked inside almost all the time (or in covered parking at the office), so I don't get as much heat inside the cab - maybe this is why mine doesn't rotate around.

Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
MrBilly, make a small mark on the shaft, the main part of the ****, and the small center piece of the **** that has the shift pattern on it. Then sit back and watch which one rotates, it will be the center part of the **** with the shift pattern. It doesn't look like it, but that part will pull out of the **** seperately and you can put it back in in whatever orientation you like. Mine's an SLT too.

Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
Thanks guys you are so smart. It looks like you are all correct, and I am wrong, in that it is the insert circling the drain!
A little digression, It's like I took the beast in for the first oil change and gave them the oil. Watched everything. The guy takes the drain plug out and doesn't know it has three gallons of oil in it so the gizmo that collects the oil now overflows on to the floor. Then he has to mop it up. Then he takes the filter off and drops it into the depths of the engine compartment. THen I say check the fluid in the differentials - one quart low in the rear. That is after the ******* told me he had it checked, and I then had this other Dodge dealer double check the diff oil and I was told it was OK.
So don't tell me it burns oil? I paid fifteen bucks for the two hours it took to change the oil and filter, they thought I had brought a filter too?, I guess. Oh well. I didn't complain, just paid and ran.

Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
Finally remembered to look. I am now a member of the rotating shift **** club. Don't know how I will ever drive my truck again. .
For the conspiracy folks anyone else noticed that the ***** didn't rotate until someone had a replacement for sale??? Only the shadow knows... For me I think it is justification to buy the **** I wanted anyway. Wonder if the wife will fall for the can't drive the truck until the shifter is fixed thing...
