The new 2007.5 will have a 68rfe made by dcx not orion. The trans was in preproduction in November and is on schedule for January production. If you look at the specs 1st gear is lower that the 48re and 5th and 6th are overdrive. The new trans is designed to work with the engine brake and has selective shift. A new body will be out for the 08 model. Will be anxious to see what changes are made. Have a great New Year.

Hmm new body? I will have to see some spy shots to determine if I would concider the new body or just get an 07.

It seems from what I have been reading and hearing the auto trannys are getting much more reliable for the long haul. I want a manual for the reliability but am now starting to reconcider.

Yeah, me too. I like the control of a stick shift, but my NV shifts pretty poorly, and the G's 6th isn't optimal for high speed empty freeway runs IMHO.

A 6 speed double overdrive (especially the Aisin) has me thinking about owning my first ever automatic transmission.

Waiting to see what the 5500 will be...

i drove one in the work truck trim on the 20th and it realey supprised me. the salesman didnt go with us, so i could kinda put her through the paces. i drove it fo 18mi, and loved the aisn, i've always been a diehard maual trans. fan but this traney could change my mind. as far as the motor goes it's ALOT quiter than either of my cummins but has way more power(stock) it wouldnt relaey burn the tires off from a stop, but it would spin em just enogh to leave a small set of black marks, thats prob. part of the tq mangment stuff.

i wont even be able to afford a new-used one for a couple years, but if i had the cash id own one

Snake, have you seen any photos or information related to 08? I am still waiting to see an 07. The dealerships here don't have anything other than 1500's. I have seen tons here online, but none in the Chicagoland area.

The reason you say that the auto tranny is better than the manual tranny is that the manual tranny used in these trucks are really car trannys and not stout enough for pickup trucks. if DC put a REAL manual tranny (9+ gears) behind these engines you would never ever consider an auto tranny. Auto trannys are for cars ... not trucks.
