6.7 driving impressions?
#16
I have put about 300 miles on two different trucks. One was a Quad cab, 4x4, 6.7/Aisin, with an 8'x9' western hauler style bed, and running between 50-70 mph on various terrain, I could get between 14.5-15.5 mpg, but I drive soft. If I'd have drivin like some people I know it might have only got 11, but I drive pretty easy. This truck weighed over 8,000lbs, also it was a brand new truck, not broken in at all. The other one was exactly like it except a regular cab.

The mileage is running around 10 mpg. This is all towing miles, I haven't run it enough bobtail to know what mileage it will make like that. I hotshot in the oilfield. The trailer weighs 7600 empty and the truck weighs 8700 lbs. The loads I've pulled range from 24k gross, trailer and load not counting the truck, pulled around 300 miles, got about 8.5 on that one and a long run about 1100 miles with a gross of about 12k, trailer and load, got 10.4 on that one.
The truck is a single cab, long wheel base cab and chassis with a 11.5 ft bed, 2 wheel drive with the Aisin transmission.
I agree with Luke, this transmission will probably make a lot of people forget about the stick shift unless your are someone that just likes to shift gears. It pulls from a stop with a load with no problem at all. It will hold 6th gear most of the time on the hills, if it down shifts to much for you go to tow/haul mode. I haven't run in tow/haul mode at all except in heavy traffic, on the highway it is in drive, 6th gear. The engine is not sluggish, it has all the get up and go I want or need. I'm sure by the end of the yr., 2007, there will be some after market stuff for it, but it works fine for me the way it is right now. By the way, be sure to get the exhaust brake, it is worth every penny they charge for it.

Thanks for the info. From what I'm gathering then they seem get about the same towing mileage as the 5.9's, and a bit worse than the 5.9 when empty?
Regarding the exhaust brake, I think I heard that the new setup uses a variable vein turbo, that will restrict down to provide braking on trucks with that option? Also, what’s the cost of the cost?

I've had mine in service, (working it) for 17 days now and have a little over 5800 miles on it. I have a load on the trailer now for a Monday morning delivery so I'm off for the weekend.

How fast are you pulling to log 10mpg?

I've pulled 18,400 lbs from arizona to La. I drove about 70-75 and averaged about 11 mpg (quad cab dually, 6 speed, 4.10). This was before I had any mods. I could see the new trucks getting a little better once they break in. Still impressive for a truck with bigger engine, auto and all the EGR equipment.

I usually drive 67-68 mph

I was in at my local 5 star saturday pricing a new '07 2500, I asked about the new 6.7
Dealer told me they probably would not be in Canada anytime in the '07 model year except for cab and chasis.
I don't know if that is fact or fiction but that is the second dealer who told me that.

probably pretty close too true, dealers here wont get them untill the american lots are full of them, simple fact being the only reason this engine is out is because of the americans air laws, canada has no such law, infact i have yet too see a station stock ULSD, and for that fact means these trucks are gonna be a little slow arriving.

That's okay with me.... I'm sure the 6.7 will be great but I think for this one I'd just as soon have a 5.9 that has been proven.
I talked to a Cummins rep two weeks ago at an equipment trade show (Cummins provides engines for many applications that I personally sell) and he said not to be affraid of the 6.7 or EGR and that the 6.7 was performing well in other applications.

I drove a 6.7/aisin C&C at Blair Ne. I warmed it up good and gave it h@ll and it was a sick dog! I didn't think they had all the emission stuff til 1/1/07 but it did. I'm guessing they're going to need the extra inches to make up for all the emission garbage. I'm cured from wanting one! Craig

14.5-15mpg is not bad at all for having 4X4, 300 miles, and a western hauler bed on it. I test drove a single cab with the manual, I couldn't get on a road that would let me run over 55 but that sucker felt like it could drag whatever you wanted.
