5.9 here to stay?

I was getting my trans serviced yesterday and started looking at some new 6.7 L. The commercial fleet manager came out and started showing trucks to me. We get to talking and he says the 5.9 is going to be fit whith all the emissions crap and put back in the Dodge trucks Anyone else heard about this?

Luke - doesn't that kind of stuff embarrass the heck out of you? I can't believe how many times I've gone to a dealership (not just Dodge) and gotten to talking to a salesperson who has absolutely no idea what they're talking about. It's so refreshing to actually FIND a salesperson that can actually talk with at least some authority about the vehicle they're trying to get you to spend tens of thousands of dollars on.

Well I tell ya, I don't know much about anything. But if there is one thing I can talk about with the best of em it is Dodge trucks. I live and breath Dodge trucks, and it really burns my but to here about all these morons out there spouting off false info to customers. It really makes the whole lot of us in the business look bad. Sometimes it really bums me out, almost to the point of wanting to get into another business, that and the fact that we can't make a dang living anymore.

Carr//// Be careful with this one... I was beaten into submission the other day for saying the samething. .. My dealer still insists that an 07 5.9 will be available, even after I showed him all the inputs from Luke S and others....

Luke....let me know the best way to get one on order...6.7 that is, with the 6speed auto.. Will the dodge website update after the new year to show this beast?

Whoa, whoa, whoa here. I think we may have gotten our signals crossed. The 5.9 is available for 07' model 2500/3500 pick-ups. I have about 15 of them on the lot right now. It is Jan-1-07 and after that the pick-ups will have the 6.7. Until then it is still a 5.9. Jan-1-07 is when the new emmissions laws go into effect and the 5.9 will not meet them, the 6.7 will.

Not as of this morning. Order screen still showing 5.7 Hemi or 5.9 Cummins, except for the Cab&chassis of course. My zone man says ordering will open for the 6.7 in 2500/3500 pick-ups sometime around the first of december.

My theory is that many of the salesman are being misled to believe that the 5.9l is "here to stay" so that the crowd that always has to have the latest and greatest doesn't wait around for the 6.7l, thus leaving the dealers with a bunch of '07 5.9 they can't get rid of.

Of course, around here (DTR,TDR, etc.) we know better. There will be advantages and disadvantages to going with either the '07 5.9 or the '07 6.7.

5.9="stuck" with the old school auto trans.
6.7=gamble on new emissions technology, fuel mileage worries, etc.

Was the 6.7 created to make up for the power loss the emission stuff will cause?
Will it be more torque and horses than the 5.9 when it's said and done?
