4 x 4 shifter squeaks like no other!!
My 4x4 shifter squeaks like there is no tommorow when ever I am moving.
It sounds like a styro cup.
I can't for the life of me make it stop. Has anyone else experienced this and if so how did you fix it?
It's making me crazy. The only way to not hear it is turn the radio way up.
Thanks....

It.s somewhere in the linkage. Get under the truck, find the linkage, get a good lubricant, dry type, and lube every goint and connection therel, squeek will go away. Do not use WD-40, it will remove whatever lube is there and not leave anything to quiet it down. Find a silicone spray, or a dryslide kind of lube and it will be quiet. My 07 5.9 did the same thing and took less than 5 minutes to stop it. I used some Remmington gun lube (white dry spray) temporally and it quit instantly. Had dealer lube it later and have not had a problem for 7000 miles so far.

mine did this and was cured 3 years ago.
unpop the boot for the lever. you will see 2 torx screws down on the plastic trunnion cover. remove them and lift out the trunnion. you will see a ridge on the drivers side that sticks out. take it to the belt sander and make it flush with the rest of the piece. never squeek again.

My findings would differ from above. While running down a rattle I actually pulled the rubber boot thingy up and out of the way and the squeaking stopped. On the INSIDE the boot is like smooth rubber....but the dry type that SQUEAKS like a **** when the two like surfaces come together. Maybe the year matters?

HA, I just asked the same thing last week. After reading a few suggestion's of spraying some type of lube in there, I used Maxima chain wax ( for my dirt bike) because I actually had it in the cab with me at the time when I was going somewhere, and was about to kill someone or something from the **** squeak being so annoying. Well like I said it has been a week and no squeak, Thank God!!!!!

I have the same problem, for 5 months now- it squeaks as the transmission moves with the torque of the motor and the driveline shifting. I put some lithium spray lube on the shifter, takes care of it for a month or so, but comes back. I will have to take Dodgezillas advice to remedy it...
I spent a good hour looking for teflon/ lithium / graphite sprays that wouldnt stink up my truck.... Home Depot must've thought I was getting a cheap high!!!!
